![]() Gauntlet: Dark Legacy By: Midway Average Rating: 4.0 Total Reviews: 77 More Information Spectacular, never a dull moment! Our family cant get enough of this game. It has a wide array of characters that grow and progress with more powers and their appearances change as you go through the different levels. It is challenging and four people can play at once. It also can be played on the WII. A classic that I found to be a real treasure! Love it! My guilty gaming pleasure By all measures it could be considered a terrible game, but for some reason I enjoy it immensely. Even solo play is fun, but with 4 players is where this truly shines. A great gamble for 20 bucks if youve never played it before but like the fantasy setting to any degree. Thoughtful level design, and challenging on hard mode. fun but very buggy This game is great to play alone or with a group. I thought the graphics were pretty good - especially on the Nightmare level where theres some very clear inspiration from MC Escher. The downside is - the more I play, the buggier the game gets. I take it as an extra challenge, now that Ive maxed out a few characters... sometimes the game freezes, but more often you cant pick up items or buy them in the store... very weird. Regular weird fighting game. I never did want this game untill a friend let me have it and it is very different than the ps2 version. One the graphics r not very good but thats what the GC is like. I do not like these type of fighting games because of the magic and wierd spells that u use. Which is like harry potter and i hate harry potter. It is one of those games that u just run around shooting over and over again and the game takes forever to beat. I also do not like made up creatures and thats what is in this game. It has awsome music in it too. The only reason i keep it is because it has a fun multiplayer mode and it is fun to beat it with up to four players!! Other than that this game is not very fun. I hardly ever play this game anymore either. WOOHOO, I can actually play this! I bought a used version of this game previously and I really loved it but it froze all the time at a certain point in the game. So I needed a new disk. The game works perfectly and it is enhanced from the original disk we owned. I love it! Dark Legacy Tons of fun for four friends. We get together on weekends and play for hours. Action-packed and relentless entertainment. Never Received I never received this game from the seller. They said that they had a "shipping mix-up" with the order. I didnt find out until 24 days after I ordered it that it was not going to be sent. I did receive a full refund. A great hack and slash game I am continually amazed by this game. This game is so much fun. It is even more fun when you bring in a friend. The action is intense. You can choose between a hack and slash character or a shooter. If you have a friend who can play the shooter then you can be the hack and slash guy who can clear the way. If you enjoyed Gauntlet at the arcades back in the days, you owe it to yourself to get this one. The narrators voice is really cool and works with the story. I think that this game will continue to be a cult game that has substance. A perfect example of what a GC game should be. This is one of the first Gamecube Games I have played. It is really fun, and Leveling up the charactors gives the game GREAT replay value. Who cares if it has horrible voice acting, It is still fun. Like some other reviewers said,This game is great to play with your family. Even my mom and my 6 year old sister like to play this. Whenever my cousins come over, we do 4-player mode and it is AWESOME. As Most Midway games go, this is fairly easy to beat (I beat it alone when I was like 10) But sometimes all the levels do get repetitive. It definately looks like this game was rushed to the stores. There is alot of glitches and bugs in it, and it freezes. And as for the levels, the only thing that it changes as you go along are the backrounds, and the emenies. But a few puzzles here and there makes up for that. THE BOTTOM LINE: This was an overlooked and underrated Gamecube game, but with lots of potentiol. This is a must have for your Gamecube collection, as long as you can take it correctly, and deal with the glitches. You should rent it first and if you like it, then buy it. I have had this game since 2002, and still play it like every 2 weeks. Why not give it a try? A perfect example of what a GC game should be. This is one of the first Gamecube Games I have played. It is fun to play as a team and conquer all the levels and bosses. Just dont get upset when your kids run ahead and grab all the treasure or coins. I would just level up my character when they were at school real quick so I stayed up with them. I have more fun playing it be myself but cant do that if the kids are home and want to play too. This game stole my friend Ok, as for the title of this review, Ill get back to that later. But as for the game itself...its awful. You run through these maze-like levels, pounding the buttons, sometimes stopping to solve boring, switch/door "puzzles" (they didnt even bother with boxes). You cannot move the camera; the levels are so linear, your view so limited, that this might as well be 2-D. Yet, creating a mindless, boring button-masher wasnt enough for Midway. They had to go and add "RPG elements". Which means that they take the ABSOLUTE WORST PART of the RPG genre--endless experience grinding. You see, merely mashing buttons is not enough. You must mash buttons through the same levels over and over in order to level up enough, otherwise your chances of beating the game are shot. And also, although the rest of the game is ridiculously easy, youll never win if you cant get the special items to defeat the bosses. Which, of course, are near-impossible to get. Now that thats off my chest, Ill explain the title. This game stole dozens of hours of my friends life. She cant beat it on her own, because the difficulty is ridiculous, so she just enters the invincibility code over and over, and blows through the game time and time again....Shes over her "Gauntlet phase" now, thank goodness, but for a while there it was all she did... Dont get this game. Seriously. Real gamers will be bored out of their skulls; casual gamers, like my friend, are at risk of getting addicted. Now go buy something better. Like a game by Nintendo. EVERRRRR!!!! I mean cmon out of all the games I have played this has got to be the 2nd best!!!!! The price is low and the game is addicting!!!!! If only the disk( for gamecube) was more durable. The memory takes up alot uf blocks so you need about59 blocks. This has got to be one of my favorite games I have ever played!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Multiplayer is a MUST This was the first game I bought for my Gamecube. For the most part it was a solid game in Multiplayer mode and a boring game in Single Player. Lets break down some of the aspects to this game. Multiplayer Play: 5/5. Cant get much better then this. Its fun the sit around the TV with 2 or 3 of your friends and play this game. Its always a race for the treasure or a race for the food item. Multiplayer play wise this game is almost the best out there. Single Player Play: 2/5. I tried it but it just isnt the same. There is no build up of emotions to get to the chests and theres no teamwork to take down the boss. Its not as fun with only one person Id stay away from this if your going to play it by yourself. Characters: 5/5. there are 6 characters to begin the game with and about 10 unlockables that you can unlock throughout your adventures. Plently of great charcaters from a Jester, to a wizard, to a Amazon, etc. Wonderful Selection. Length- 4/5. Its about an 8-10 hour game not cheating or using any guides. Its certainly worth the $20.00 MAX you would put out to buy it. In conclusion this game is 100% worth it for Multiplayer action and not worth it for single player action. I would highly recommend this game to anyone! Hallelujah! Upon renting this game I didnt think very highly of it, mostly because of glitches in it that were apparently absent in the PS2 and X-Box versions of the game. But no more! I just received this as a gift and it appears Midway now makes an updated version with any bugs removed. Even some camera angles in certain boss battles are different but things I have noticed as of right now: 1. The bosses and golems DO HAVE life bars. 2. The Scimitar of Decapitation along with any other faulty weapons now work PERFECTLY. 3. Inventory is much more responsive. 4. Stats DO stay in place after you purchase them And last but not least 5. No more getting your character caught and unable to move on ledges! If you have been debating on whether or not to purchase this, now would be the time! Addictive But Not Really Good by: x_opp On: 2003-01-02 Guantlet is a very addictive game once you own it, but I really have never figured out why. The graphics are poor, you need next to no intelligence to play the game, and while enemies are always coming at you in great numbers they are killed with one or two hits. Gauntlet also lacks any type of interesting plot. And the plot that does exist doesnt really fit into the gameplay at all. I guess I use Gauntlet as a game where I can vent my frustration by kiling thousands of peons. But if you are looking for a real game I would recommend one with a good storyline and more difficult enemies. SO COOL!!!!! THIS IS SUCH A COOL GAME.IT HAS 3-D LEVELS AND A MULTIPLAYER MODE IT IS CHALLENGING WITH AMAZING GRAGPICS.DEFANITLY BUY IT!IT IS WAY MORE FUN WITH 4 PLAYERS.IT IS BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE. Things and stuff by: Anonymous On: 2002-12-31 This is a wonderful game. While the graphics are not splendid, the gameplay is spectacular, especially if you have friends playing with you. Four people wasted (well, not wasted) seven straight hours playing this game. Again, wonderful. Though completely lacking any interesting storyline at all, the constant battle and interesting settings are enough to keep you busy. The sound is very nice, too, especially the music. The only problem is that it is very quiet, and you can never hear it amidst the noise of a battle. Its very rare to not be in a battle in this game, so the music cannot be properly appreciated. While not delivering an epic tale of romance and magnificence, the game does what its supposed to. It provides a very fun game, both multiplayer and single player, and allows for hours of action packed fun. Overall? Maybe 8, 8.5/10. SO COOL!!!!! Gauntlet: Dark Legacy by: Anonymous On: 2002-11-11 this is fun fun game i recommend you to try it Gauntlet: Dark Legacy this is fun fun game i recommend you to try it Okay Game This is mostly just another hack and slash game. yeah is has a few rpg elements, just the character development. Atleast for single player. In Multiplayer however, it is much more fun. The levels do get harder with each additional player but that adds to the fun! Still the single player is okay. You pick a class of character that have a high stat, like wizards have high magic etc. As you gain more levels you get stronger and those enemies that took 3 hits to kill are dead in a hit. As a bonus, you can have a char of either red, blue, green, or yellow. each color looks different, so a green warrior looks different from a red one, etc. Also every 10 levels or so they get a new title and they advance in more features. So a level 60 wizard is called a spellcaster. a level 20 wizard is called a magi etc. Plus their clothes advance to, the wizard robes blend a new color in their robes and their robes get more detailed. The weapons also get more detailed. When you hit level 30 or so you get a little flying creature that also shoots at your enemies! I myself have a level 67 blue wizard/spellcaster right now If your not sure rent it first, if u like it then buy it This game is fun When I first layied eyes on this game I thought it was stupid looking. Then when I started playing it with my friends it was awsome! The hack slash co-op mode is so cool. I just love leveling up and seeing what new look my hero gets. On the bad side though this game has horrible graphics, no wonder its a direct n64 port. And after a while this game gets really boring. I recomend this to people looking for a really long action game. Thats cool, but the downside of this game is the GLITCHES! 1. There is no energy bar for bosses or tough enemies. 2. The Scimitar of decapitation doesnt ever work. 3. You are unable to use all of the inventory items. 4. If you buy any stats, they reset.(most annoying) All these glitches are on the gamecube version, but the Xbox and PS2 versions are PERFECT! Whats your problem, Midway? Do you hate Nintendo or something? If you want this game buy it for PS2 or Gamecube. It has secret levels and secret characters you could be.It has alot of gameplay. The graphics are awesome. It has alot of levels in it.It a great game.I reccomended this to anyone. The game is better than the other game gauntlet legends. You should go buy this game.It wouldnt be the waste of your money.Overall the game is awesome,so go buy it.It is a must have. People MUST see this game for what it is Guantlet: DL is a great multi platform game blending elements of games such as Diablo and Dungeons and Dragons into a crisp and more action oriented package. That is not to say they skimp on the RPG elements, however, This game is packed with magic, potions, items, and adventures...as well as awsome Boss fights. Its also improved greatly on the Gamecube with an expanded inventory system and MORE items. The music is great and changes level to level, the graphics could be better but hey Diablo aint no prize in that catagory either. BUT I think all to often people treat this game as it has to live up to Bladurs gate or Dungeons and dragons when all it wants to do is be a great, immersive, and did I mention BIG RPG adventure. Something it does perfectly. THE COOLEST GAME This is probably the best game ive played for my gamecube yet. its so fun and unlike most other games you dont get sick of it the day after you buy it. i would reccomend this game to anybody. I can't believe I didn't try this game before I didnt know about the Arcade version of gauntlet but now that Ive played I see why many people say its great This game is not ment to played alone because If you play it alone all the demons etc will finish you up. Its so cool because you can be speaking to you friend and saying If you buy games for there graphics you better not buy this Because the graphics are pretty poor but the gameplay is exelent The more you play with the character the more powerfull It becomes for exemple I like the blue wizard so I only use him Thank you for reading my review Nothing out of the ordinary, but nothing terrible either by: Anonymous On: 2002-07-20 There are a ton of games like this, just walking around, aimlessly holding the attack button and killing thousands of enemies. And theres one thing in common with all of them: theyre boring. The same can be said about this game, except for the multiplayer mode. I first played this game at a friends house, and I loved it, but when I got it for myself, I didnt get the same response that I did previously. If you live somewhere entirely remote, or have no friends, you will hate this game. With that said, the game did have various key points. I liked it because of the teamwork, character system, and level designs. For example, most of the levels are expansive and interesting, not just a narrow corridor with keys, gates, and enemies. Also, unlike its PS2 counterpart, there was an accessible inventory, which took the aggravation out of having to use your items the moment you get them. But, the PS2 version also had visible health meters for some of the stronger enemies and bosses. This game does have a choppy framerate at times, but Ive only encountered it in the tower level select, which wasnt anything big. There is a lot of options in this game, making it more than just any hack and slash game. On certain enemies, you can do various things to get out of a jam: use a regular attack, use a power attack (slower but stronger), use magic potions, use a turbo boost, use a combo attack, use various items, etc. The possibilities are endless. Id rate it as follows: But even with all of the good in the game, it isnt a must buy. Rent it as a party game with your friends or something, but there are better ones out there, if not hack and slash medieval games with no plot. A typical arcade game. But should it have stayed there? Thats where you decide. Great game! MISERABLE GRAPHICS!!!:( Ive got to say, that this game is pretty great. The graphics, um... theyre horrible!!! They are just as bad as N64 graphics, because their hands are square!!!Good game though. Gauntlet: Dark Legacy- The Gauntlet franchise returns by: Anonymous On: 2002-07-13 Yes, yes, we all know that this game is not very innovative, which earned it a 5.1 out of 10 in Gamespot. But actually, the point is, IT DOESNT MATTER. Its fun, and thats the whole point of it. Did it become popular in the arcades by being innovative? NO!!! It was popular becuase itz fun, and the hack-and-slash type of gaming has brought it up to one of the most popular game franchises today. If I were u, and i had a Gamecube(YEAH!!!), PS2, or an XBOX, this would be an ideal game of choice for INSANE multiplayer action or to just have fun by yourself. What? by: Anonymous On: 2002-07-05 I am very glad I rented this first. I thought it would be good...judging by the good rating. But this game is BY FAR the worst game cube game Ive played. Gauntlet: A Review On A Dark Legacy. by: Anonymous On: 2002-07-04 Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is one awesome Gamecube game! From my first time playing it, I instantly became hooked. There was something about the game and changing you character, watching them grow into legends (the final level you can be) and, most of all, collecting all of the shards from the bosses and runestones from different acts to let you defeat Skorne and finally Garm, the biggest, baddest meanie in the game. Everytime I got a chance, I would play Gauntlet. It is a really cool game and I would reccomend it to many people! Gauntlet's at it's best! This game is downright awesome. You get to choose from four totally new awesome charecters (Knight, Jester, Sorceress, and Dwarf) plus the old charecters (Warrior, Wizard, Archer, and Valkyrie), not to mention 8 more unlockables! Each hero has a true form as a MONSTER!!! Im a red Wizard that I started no more than two months ago, and hes already the Legend of the game, with full stats, health, level and all, thanks to the mind-boggling graphics and the intense story line that keeps you on for hours! (Hint: Watch out for Skorne!) Buy this game now and become a LEGEND! Gauntlet: To Buy , Or Not To Buy......... OK , this game is very fun , Ill admit , but it does have a few flaws. One is that I suggest you not buy this game if your an only child , or just a loner with no friends. YOUR GOING TO WANT SOMEONE TO PLAY THIS WITH. Sure , playing it by yourself is fun , but it gets boring , and it gets boring fast with no one at your side. Another is that some of the levels get repeditive. Sure the old small village taken over by zombies genre is cool , but someone should make up something new! Alright , now that the bad stuff is out and left for you to ponder , on to the good. Now dont get me wrong by what I said before , this game is not boring , there is much to keep you interested. Such as a wide choice of items and magics to cast on your most unfortunate foes.Another interesting thing that got my attention is the different selection of characters. From Knights to Dworfs , this feature will probably grab your head too. So overall I would say that the game play is fun , the bosses are tough , and the graphics are nice , BUT IF YOU DONT HAVE SOMEONE TO PLAY THIS GAME WITH EVERY NOW AND THEN (AT LEAST) THEN THIS GAME IS NOT THE RIGHT ONE FOR YOU. But if this is not a problem for you , then get this game. But remember , the most important review , is yours... Classic Ok, Im not a big fan of RPG games, but this one is worth the time. You get a choice of several types of characters all with their different strengths and weaknesses...plus as you play the game you can complete bonus stages for even more hidden characters. Tear your way through something insane like 60 or 70 levels of monsters, ghouls and demons. Battle it out with huge level guardian monsters like a dragon, a yeti, a genie...and more! All on your way to defeat the mighty Skorne. The controls for this game are easy to master and there are many puzzles in each level. A fun game for anyone, even if you hate RPGs, this game is a remake of a classic. The only thing that bothers me about this game is that a handful of the levels have been pulled and are almost an exact replica of the N64 version. But thats ok, especially if you havent played the N64 version then you wont care at all. But even with that little flaw, Gauntlet is a fun game that anyone can enjoy. A niche game with a TON of replay value. In the arcades, this game fed an addiction inside me I didnt know I had. Its over the top fantasy elements (the sorceress is a perfect characature of the overly volumptuous damsiel in distress) and wonderfully slash-happy game play (envision your character standing on a ledge, hundreds of feet above boiling lava, surrounded on all sides by knife wielding mutants, crazed orcs, and kamikaze bomb carriers, all lusting after your untimely and greusome demise) both combine to create a fun and highly addictive gaming experience thats worth the 50 bucks this game will cost you. This game features 8 starting characters, 20 some odd secret characters, 60 totally different levels, 10 different boss battles (that you can replay for more treasure and experience) 30 power-ups, and more collectibles than you can shake a stick at. This alone is enough replay to make any gamers head explode, but the makers also decided to include countless costumes for you character(s) to wear (The dwarfs S&M outfit had me rolling on the floor). My one gripe with this game is that Midway decided not to update the graphics to take advatage of the gamecubes graphical power. Bad for some, but I enjoyed those old school graphics that made me feel as if I had the arcade coin-op in my own home. (for those of you who are wondering, the feature that made your charaters health deplete over time is thankfully absent in the home version). The best 4-player game Ive owned since super smash bros. melee, and with the ability to save multiple characters on one file, Gauntlet the ultimite pick-up-and-play party in a box. A great games with a few frustrations... Word of caution to those that are purchasing this game... as you get deeper into the levels, there is a problem in the coding that causes the game to randomly freeze up when you obtain a hint scroll. According to MidWay Tech Support, they are aware of the problem, but there is currently no fix in the works. The game itself is great fun and the lock up proves to be mildly annoying (you will need to restart the Gamecube and begin the level over.) Im just surprised to find that MidWay is well aware of the problem and not working to fix it. Thought it would be helpful to know as you purchase this that it does have a small drawback. Gauntlet's back and at it's best! by: Anonymous On: 2002-06-13 Oh, I cantt even begin to say how cool this game is in 1,000 words, so Ill shorten it. I recently today wrote a review on Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and that is one cool game, but can it equal Gauntlet power? Im not sure. All I know is this is one cool game! Not even arcade quality This game was so disapointing. I would think that the graphics would have been improved over the N64 for the superior GameCube, but NO! And talk about boring. If I wanted to walk around all day smacking the same creatures time after time, then I would play Zelda for the original Nintendo, it was more entertaining. If you love gauntlet get this game I loved this game Id always be playing it in the arcade when it was around. If you are a gauntlet arcade lover this is great for you. note that if you do want to play friends are a plus in this game . it give you 4 player abilty and you need at least 2. Gauntlet : Dark Legacy Rocks!!! by: Anonymous On: 2002-06-03 this game is so cool. the first thing in this game that you get to do that is cool is you get to fight zombies with your basic or heavy attack these attacks get more cooler as you progress thruogh the game. secondly the bosses are really cool but hard. i recommend this game for anyone who liked final fantasy 9 or 7. or for someone who wants a really good long game. Gauntlet delivers upon it's expectations. This game has been hounded by many reviewers for its less than spectacular graphics and how the gameplay is not intuitive. But Gauntlet delivers exactly what it is supposed to: A hack-and-slash adventure with some new improvements. This is mainly a multiplayer game, but I can tell you that I played it for hours in singleplayer mode and have had a great time. I have two single player games going right now, one with the Warrior and one with a Falconess (secret character). I also have two multiplayer games going with my brother, and we are having a blast. The game requires hours of fighting your way through levels, collecting treasure and items, hitting switches, and raising your experience level (which is highly addictive, by the way). If you are looking for a game with revolutionary gameplay and graphics, then this is not up your alley. But if you simply want a game to sit down and enjoy either by yourself or with a friend, then Gauntlet: Dark Legacy definitely delivers. Gauntlet delivers upon it's expectations. Great Game by: Anonymous On: 2002-04-16 I thought this game was great the only thing wrong with it was it was too short and easy, besides that it was great every ten levels a new look that was cool and when you become a legend you get bigger its even better Aweful this is the worst gamecube game i have played. terrible graphics, and extremely easy gameplay, make this a poor choice. Great Game I thought this game was great the only thing wrong with it was it was too short and easy, besides that it was great every ten levels a new look that was cool and when you become a legend you get bigger its even better Sorely disappointing by: Anonymous On: 2002-04-02 This game was disappointing. I played it on the N64 and not much has changed since it came out on the GC. There are a few new characters and enemies and other small changes but overall the game is the same. The graphics dont look much better than Gauntlet Legends and the sound effects are annoying (you know the thumping foot steps). It seems to me that Midway wanted to get a game out on the GC quickly and inexpensively and this is what they came up with. What was Nintendo thinking? They should never had allowed this game to be released on their console. Whats the point in having a next-gen. console without a next-gen. game? My advice: if you want to play this game rent it or borrow it from a friend.... POSEURS! HOW COME WHEN PS2 RELEASES A GAME THAT SELLS WELL GAMECUBE HAS TO HAVE IT SO THEY CAN MAKE SOME MONEY? How come more than half of you games are on PS2? Try to release games THAT ARE YOUR OWN, NOT FOR PS2! It is it by: Anonymous On: 2002-03-29 I loved Gauntlet Legends for N64. Gauntlet Dark Legacy by: Anonymous On: 2002-03-26 If you like Zelda, you will love this game. It is much like a Zelda game except you get the option of what type of player to be. You can choose from a wizard, a warrior, a dwarf, and a knight, and those are just the male characters. Mostly Mindless Mayhem = fun, fun, fun Having been a fan of the old arcade gauntlet years ago, my eyes almost bugged out of my head when I saw this title. And though I may, for that reason, be a little biased, I am extremely happy with my purchase. Although this is not, by any stretch, an RPG (which is where I spend most of my time) the mindless mayhem is a bit of pleasant nostalgia for me. You start with 8 character classes in the beginning and can open up new upgraded versions as you play. Each has four color based skins that change slightly at certain levels. One of the main drawbacks, in my opinion, is the linear design of the different boards. In each one you are forced to wade through every single monster the designer thought to throw at you, pretty much in a predetermined order. Overall the game is a lot of fun to play and has pretty good replay value. I have 4 different characters going simultaneously, 3 for me to play alone and one I play with a friend. (Two player combos are great!) I am sure that I will log a lot of hours on this game. Great Party Game by: Anonymous On: 2002-03-21 This game is like any other adventure game if you play by your self. But if you can get a freind or 3 to play with you it is an excellent game. Also if you play with 2 or more players it is much easier to beat the game. The game has 10 realms (worlds) and is a game with alot of replay value. There are many items that will help you on your quest (potions, health, etc.) and over 24 secret charecters, most of which require a secret code. Over all this is a party game that will take many hours to beat, and once you do so there are 3 levels of difficulty and 8 main charecters to beat it with. Remember that it is rated teen (13 or older) for things like blood, violence, and gore. this game definetly earned the 5 stars I gave it. Great Game This game is a lot like the computer game released by BLizzard Entertainment, Diablo II(one of the best games ever along with Starcraft, Starcraft: Brood War, and Warcraft III Reign Of Chaos) and is a must have for anyone who enjoyed Diablo II. I feel that this game was well made and has very nice graphics and is enjoyable to play. Also when you lose you dont get frustrated in this game, instead you want to try, again, and again till you get it! I highly recommend purchaseing this game it is a must have for a dedicated gamer. Awesome cooperative or solo adventure!! This is the type of game Ive been hoping for on the Gamecube. The graphics are sweet and the gameplay never-ending, fast and furious. My 9 year old son and me sit down and play together exploring worlds and fighting creatures for hours. A definite must for the Gamecube owner. Hours upon hours of gameplay in this game. Great for those one of a kind gamers... Do you like button mashing games? Games where you repeatidly press the same button over and over until the next level? If so then you will like this game. The game is similar the nintendo 64 version but has added many more levels and characters. The game is one to four players. The game is at its best when you are playing with four of your buddies, but if you are playing by yourself it gets very repeditive and well boring. The graphics arent that great and well if you didnt know this was the Gamecube version you would think that you were playing the 64. Also it is very frustrating when you just miss two or three gems and you dont know where. The people at Midway looks like they just rushed through this game to get it done. There are good things about this game. There are a few good things about this game. The levels and all the different combinations and weapons will keep you playing for a while. But for the new one i thought it would be helpful to know who does what. Well its simple the sorceress and jester are for playing it safe with distance attacks. But the worrior and dwarf are for danger and the hack n slash style. Thats all for now! (signed pro gamer) Desperately Seeking Sassy Yellow Sorceress Ooh-I have waited for this game since it came out on PS2 last year! And it was worth the wait! I loved Gauntlet Legends on N64, and Dark Legacy expands on that. The graphics are decent(they arent that bad!), and the play control is easy as pie. If you dont like Gauntlet games dont expect to love this one. True--it is more of the same, but I liked all the others. My fav character is the new Sorceress--she is something else. The game is fun in single player, but a blast in multiplayer. All this stuff is going on--wild times!!!! The Gamecube version does feature upgrades in the graphics and sound, and loading times too. I of course urge you to buy the game(that cause I love it!), but if something new is what you are looking for...move right along. who is who? My daughter lost intrest in the first 2 minutes of the game. I would not recommend this for anyone! okay game by: Anonymous On: 2002-03-10 this game [disappoints] i thought this would be a good game but the graphics [disappoint] and the camera views are awful okay game this game [disappoints] i thought this would be a good game but the graphics [disappoint] and the camera views are awful looked before I leaped and found an awesome game Like the title said Ilooked before I leaped. But I made the right choice. But if this is your first time playing a hack and slash game I would rent it first. The graphics are awesome and theres a good character selection. But it is pretty confuseing to navigate the levels but I would always say its an awesome game. Strictly a multiplayer experience First, let me qualify this review by saying that I have not played this game for more than a few hours. Also, I have not attempted playing it by myself, as frankly I cant imagine being entertained by this games single-player offering. And thats what Gauntlet comes down to, really. Its a great multiplayer cooperative game, but its not meant to be played alone. If you dont have friends who can come over every week or two to join your dungeon crawl, DO NOT PICK THIS UP. That said, Ive been having a blast with this game. Gauntlet Legends was fun on the N64, and this game offers a lot of the same great gameplay with extra classes, items, and (perhaps best of all) higher-resolution graphics which makes everything easier to see. Not that this game will win any awards for its visuals. Midway went for quantity, not quality (a good thing) and while Gauntlet has the ability to throw what seems like millions of monsters at you at once, they obviously are not high-poly models. The framerate stutters a little at times - perhaps more than it should. In my experience it doesnt really hamper gameplay, and doesnt really bother me. If Perfect Darks framerates bothered you, you might find this annoying as well. One feature that I really love is the ability to manage multiple characters under each save file. For example, when I load my particular save file associated with my name JASON, I can then select any character class and level up in that class. I currently have a level 17 Wizard and a level 9 Warrior to my name. You can also access character arbitration between levels and change your class without worrying about managing extra save data. Its really quite nifty. Anyway, Im hooked on this game. I think its underrated - youd be hard-pressed to find a better 4-player cooperative game on the market (outside of sports titles) - if you have friends to play with, this is definitely worth a purchase. Should be an excellent game by: Anonymous On: 2002-03-07 This game looks awesome. The graphics have been gratly improved since its Dreamcast counterpart and it should provide excellent 4 player action. 5 stars Ignore the previous review (25 year-old gamer) First off, let me apologize for the three preceding reviews, two of them are talking about the wrong product and one isnt telling you anything that helps. The reviewers have no business posting. For those who are on the fence about whether or not they want to order this game or not, let me help a little. First off, I own the PS2 version of this game. Now, as weve seen so far, either the Gamecube release is exactly the same or improved over the PS2 version. With that in mind, either way this is a five-star game. The game that the misguided reviewers are discussing is Gauntlet Legends. Now, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy basically took Legends, doubled the number of boards and characters, and improved the graphics. There is no need to own Legends, I would just purchase this one, since everything that appears in Legends is encompassed within Dark Legacy. As far as gameplay goes, if you like hacknslash type games, where you can pick up items and build your character, then this is for you. One improvement in this game is that initially there are eight characters that fall under four classes (warrior, archer, wizard, and valkyrie). As you collect the bonus coins on the different levels, you can unlock a few more (four or five, dont remember the exact number). Each class has a dominant trait (strength, armor, speed, and magic) and a special magical ability that grows more powerful at certain level-ups (wizards can use magic to change poison into food). IMPORTANT TIP IN THIS PARAGRAPH, PLEASE READ: You can increase each characters traits by leveling up or with gold that you collect. On the PS2 version, once one of your traits maxed out at 999, you wouldnt gain any more for the remaining three traits at level-up. From there on, you would have to increase those with gold. The one thing that upset me, since I didnt know, was that when one trait maxed out, the others reverted back to number they would have reached on their own, therefore wiping out any extra points you purchased for those traits. In essence, you should allow your character to level-up on their own and then once they max out the dominant trait, buy the rest. Basically, you should sit on your gold until one trait reads 999, otherwise you will waste gold. That was my only complaint but once I figured that out, it was a moot point and did not take away from gameplay. One of the other improvements was that one character took up a file on Legends. On the PS2, one file will hold all 12+ characters under one name. The boards are expansive and very detailed. The enemies are relentless, varying and plentiful. One of the other great things is that the number of enemies and items is dependent upon the number of players. The more the merrier and the more chaotic. Every time I thought I had beaten the game, another board opened up. Its a fairly straight-forward game, kill everything, collect items and gold, buy items, increase character traits at level up, defeat mini-bosses and stage bosses. Its truly an adventure game, the only RPG element is the character traits, but that is the extent. This game is a lot of fun if you just want to fight and not have to do a whole lot of thinking. Its more challenging with multiple players but definitely worthwhile as a single player. There is a certain strategy to some boards to minimize the damage that your character takes. Basically, if Nintendo changes nothing from the PS2 version, it would still be worth it. Somehow, I feel that they will add or change some things for the better. Either way, its worth buying. One warning, if you want a true RPG, look elsewhere. This requires minor puzzle solving and very little battle strategy. The day it came out for N64 i got it and fell in love with the game! I must have played it for at least 3 hours that day. Well in Gauntlend Legends you use one of the many characters and kill these monsters with magic, swords, and other cool things! It is a game for players 1-4 and the age of gamers for it should be from 10 to 18! This game is rated TEEN for violance and blood. In 2-4 player mode you dont have to have 2 diffrent mods you use more then one player to conquer the bad guys! Awsome! This game is awsome for partys! This game you must have if you saw the movie Lord of The Rings! You should also get it if you like the game Golden Sun for Gameboy Advance. Well as i said you will love it!
