![]() Pikmin 2 By: Nintendo Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 107 More Information Awesome This game is freakin awesome thats why its so expensive. The purple pikmin make it all worth while.I shall say no more you want to find out more buy the game. P.S.iTS BETTER THAN THE FIRST!!!!! A LOT better then the first one. Believe me.... Well first of all I own this game and i have played it 5 time. This time you can tell where the water is so that your pikmin dont drown YAY! it is at some places a little hard and difficult. I wouldnt get it for a young kid that gets frustrated easily or that doesnt like thinking really hard about stuff. over all its a pretty good game. Pros: you can see the water, you get more pikmin then in the first game, you get stuff to help you fight monsters, you can pick pikmin out of the ground faster then in the first one and there are more places to go to and more monsters to fight. Cons: can be a bit anoying, some monsters are hard and eat pikmin really quickly and the day is shorter. Who says a good game has to be M-rated? First of all, let me say this: All you people that think that the only good game is one where blood and gore is sprayed across the screen every two seconds and the only thing that the characters say is (******) or (bleeeeeeep-bleeep-******-bleep), think again. Pikmin 2 is no doubt one of the better (if not best) games that Ive played, right up there with Kingdom Hearts, the first Pikmin and SSBB. What makes this game so good, you ask? 1) Supreme, unmatched graphics,2) Very good, believable storyline, (picks up right where the last one left off),3) Great replayability,4) Cave addition is cool,5) The Pikmin (Duh), and 6)numerous chances to experiment and say "I wonder what would happen if I did ____." Graphics: 10/10: This games graphics are even better than the first, which is saying a LOT. Water graphics are even better, and the various snow/flower petals/etc. falling out of the sky are a nice touch. Storyline: 8/10: Believable, but nothing really unpredictable. You know that theres going to be another disaster somehow. Replayability: 9/10: The game is great to play over again because you can experiment and play the game in different ways, get different treasures at different times, and the 2-player modes are fun. Just a little hint, you get The Key to unlock challenge mode by killing the Beady Long Legs in the Citadel of Spiders at the Perplexing Pool (last sublevel). Caves: 9/10: Im glad that Nintendo thought up this little quirk to the game. Its a cool, unique way to get more treasures and purple and white Pikmin. The only thing is that you cant get any more Pikmin in the caves :only less. Pikmin: 10/10:The addition of the two new Pikmin, purple and white, (GO WHITES)makes the game simpler and more confusing at the same time. Red, Yellow and Blue Pikmin got better, but the exclusionof bomb-rocks makes it different. Overall I rate this game 10/10. If you think of not buying this game, judged by a 1-star rating, dismiss that thought. BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No second thoughts, buy it. Pikmin 2 I am not a big fan of pikmin but this one was kind of fun. The reason i do not like pikmin that much is because i can never figure out the purpose or the story of the game. I made it pretty far in the game but it gets pretty boring and very hard. I know that he is from a different planet and he is tiny and he has to battle allot of made up animals that r from space and the same size as Olimar or bigger. The sound is good and exciting to listen to and the graphics r awsome. Most of the music is french because it is from france and it can get quite annoying. I love the multiplayer feature because it is fun and a way to get used to the game. The controls r not very easy to use and the view is far away from olimar and since it is all in the wildlife and there r different colors everywhere it is hard to see ur charecter. This game is fun becides those reasons. Good Game Very fast delivery The seller was in the area & he dropped it off the next day. If it's your kind of game... Its great. The game is a great continuation of the first game, but if you dont like these kind of puzzle games it isnt for you. Before you buy this game or the first Pikmin, search for some game-play videos of it on Youtube to see what the game is like. GREAT! Pikmin 2 is one of those games that makes you happy!, collecting treasures, digging caves, fighting huge bosses, those are some of the things that make this game special. 5 different Pikmin keep things varied, 2 player mode, challenge mode. Highly recommended to anyone that wants to have a good time. Pikmin 2 Pikmin 2 is gonna be awesome, I just got it off of Ebay, and for all of you that say the first one was bad... You have no taste. Pikmin2 Well, I got this game for my nephews and they loved it. During the hard parts, Id take over the expedition. Ive never played the first pikmin and I know Im missing out but for now this game is pretty cool. Battles are painful, knowing you sacrafice your pikmin but in the end its worth it. I like that you can control olumar*mispelled* and louie so its easier to just send one dude to the exit/entrance in the hole while you dont have to risk killing your pikmin in the movement process. =,( Whats neat is that once you obtain certain items you dont have to worry about killing enemies, locating treasure and picking your pikmin will be a breeze as blowing a whistle. ^_~ Its a pretty fun game once you get the hang of it and obtain the items. We beat the game in about 6 days but thats b/c we have no life. XD Nah, just kidding. Anywho, if you want to buy the game, it may look costly on amazon but on ebay its more expensive *last one went for $94.X-x* I think its a neat game. ^_^ I Love The Pikmin Series!! I started out with the first game. The first one was decent and not a drag. When I found out they were making a 2nd Pikmin game I was excited. I rented it first. It was an excellent combination on pure fun and controls. I bought for the real deal, and still had fun. As others say, "Its hard, and gets repetive". I didnt find the game like that. I actually thought the game was simple. Of course they couldve erased some the caves from the game, but that was okay. Besides you can go to other websites and look at FAQs, for pikmins sake. I really did think they added better controls to the sequel: throwing pikmin faster, two Capts., and the new addition of 2 new Pikmin colours. It was really fun to play endless hours of the game. And if you complete the game you can explore and roam freely. The day limitation made me smile, because the UNLIMITED DAYS make the game more easier. This game was fun + easy controls. 9.6/10.0 SUPER FUN! BEST GAME EVER BEST GAME IN THE WORLD! YOU MUST Buy IT! It is soooooooo much better then the first one. It is better because... It Has Underground levels, More violence HAHAHA, harder Bad Guys, and it has two guys you can be, oh and one more thing... The fields are AWESOME! If you like little people being eaten and fighting, then get this game! GREATEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This game is as good as Zelda! The first one was not as good, but pikmin 1 is a tiny little bit fun. But trust me on this DO NOT BUY PIKMIN 1 IT IS BAD. BUY PIKMIN 2 BECAUSE. it has underground levels, It has more and different kinds of bad guys, It has new Purple and White pikmin, No time limit. Plus the challenge mode is way better. DO NOT BUY PIKMIN 1 BUY PIKMIN 2 its better then pikmin 1. A real-time strategy war game...but cuter. They look cute, but little Pikmin can beat up monsters pretty quickly. And number 2 is an incredibly good game. There are many differences with the sequel that raise it to a higher level. In the first game your character, Olimar, had a time limit to dig up all the parts to his ship. The sequel has no time limit--you can spend as long as you want to dig up treasure to get your company out of debt. The two extra types of Pikmin also add many dimensions to the game. The purple Pikmin are heavyweight lifters and strong attackers. The white Pikmin are hidden treasure detectors and are poisonous. Although the game starts off easy, the final levels are extremely challenging. The bosses are very tedious, especially near the end. However, this game has an incredible amount of depth, and you will probably play some levels over and over again just to get all the treasure. Some parts of the game are difficult. Pikmin 2 makes selecting the Pikmin you want to throw easier, by letting you choose with the D-pad. However, you may have trouble selecting only certain colors of Pikmin to fulfill certain tasks. You are supposed to select the group you want to move with the B-button. If you press it, a ring will appear, calling out all the Pikmin within that ring. It gets tedious choosing only certain colors of Pikmin, especially if you want to have only the red (flame-retardant) Pikmin attack the fire-breathing monsters. However, this is only a minor concern in a great game. It resembles a real-time strategy game, like Warcraft, but far cuter. It resembles Lemmings, but more elaborately task-oriented. Pikmin 2 is pretty unique. It isnt my favorite, but its still very good. A real-time strategy war game...but cuter. They look cute, but little Pikmin can beat up monsters pretty quickly. Ive never played the first game, but this game does not require you play the first to play the second. There isnt much of a difference between the two other than new territories, baddies, and Pikmin. Lets explore more about the game, shall we? PLOT: Captain Olimar is back from the planet of the Pikmin to his home at Hocotate. But something else is wrong. The President of Hocotate Freight is in a serious debt. With not enough Pokos (the currency) to pay it off, the President is looking at a loss of his job, but when Olimar arrives, the President hatches up on a plan. Now Olimar must go back to the planet of the Pikmin with a new ally, the shy, plump Louie, and the smart spaceship, to gather back as many treasures as possible to pay off the companys massive debt. And all of this cannot be done without the help of the Pikmin. I say that this game is already better than the original because not only do you have an unlimited number of days to gather up the treasure to pay it off, you explore so many new places and find the most unusual things buried underground (like candies, I ask you!). Also the names given to the objects we are very familiar with are very hillarious. Also, along with your red, blue, and yellow Pikmin, two new Pikmin are discovered. The Purple pikmin (which is bulky and carries what roughtly ten pikmin could--great for squishing bulborbs and stunning enemies!), and the White Pikmin (small, red-eyed Pikmin who locate buried treasure and are immune to poisonous gases. When digested, can also give off a killer poison of their own.). These two are only found in caves, to which you must toss Pikmin in the flower pods to retrieve them. Thus, they are pretty rare and its wise to keep as many as possible! GRAPHICS: The graphics, even for Gamecube standards, are simply beautiful. The grass, the trees, the snow...its colorful, crisp, fresh, and very, very smooth. But what captivated me the most was the water. The water actually looks like water! The rust stains actually look like rust stains, and the treasures you find along the way resemble something you normally see lying around in the street. Everything has perfect volume, and its just completly flawless. (A+) SOUND: This game isnt exactly known for soundtrack music. You get the soft tunes when you venture off into the snow, the low trumpet sounds of certain underground levels, the suspenseful fanfare when you battle a boss, but it all runs together, so the music isnt really all that interesting. Other than the music, however, the Pikmin do make their cute little sounds every often or so, and actually sing a different tune if you have Pikmin of all colors follow you at once. Besides the sounds Louie and Olimar make when they walk, stand around, being called for, whistling, the sounds of the baddies, there really isnt much in the way of sounds. But what is there, does sound good, and clean, and smooth. I recommend you listen to your own music, if you prefer, when playing. (B-) ENTERTAINMENT: With many treasures to dig out, underground caves to be discovered, and creatures to battle, this game will keep you hooked until the debt is paid, and even then the game does not end. When Olimar finishes paying off his debt and goes back to Hocotate, Louie was accidentally left behind. Now Olimar and the President go back to find him, and to collect more treasures. Although I dont want to spoil the plot too much, getting all of the treasures wont exactly give you a proper payoff. But when you do beat the game, Louie gives you some good advice on how to properly serve the slain creatures youve encountered. This game is really fun, and does offer a challenge mode and versus mode, but nothing too fancy. (A-) CONTROLS: The controls are very, very easy. The instruction booklet lays it all out for you, with simple toss and pick controls, whistle commands, and thats about it. While neither Louie, Olimar, the President, or the Pikmin jump, you really dont need to jump anywhere. Its all a matter of tecniques and strategy with both Louie and Olimar or Olimar and the President to get this treasure, or defeat this certain creature. (A+) EXTRAS: The Extras arent that much of a biggie, really. Once you beat the game, you might want to go back, but after a while, getting all of the treasures again will become rather tedious, especially when there isnt much of a payoff when you do. You get access to replay certain movies (which isnt much), read information about the creatures youve discovered and the treasures, even feed the creatures, though that does get really boring, really fast. A challenge mode that will keep you entertained for a while, and a versus mode. In the Versus mode, however, neither the white or the purple pikmin are used. It all matters on how much you like the idea of that or not, but I honestly dont mind. The Versus mode is okay, but far better Versus games are done elsewhere. (B-) OVERALL: This game is a definate must-play for those whove played the first game or havent even played it at all. It is a very good game, and definately worth the buy. If you are still unsure if this is for you, go out and rent it, though at the ridiculous prices to rent a game, I suggest you buy a used copy for a good solid price. A worthy game for the Gamecube! (A-) Better than the original, fairly good replay value too! I liked the original Pikmin game but it doesnt have great replay value, especially once you get your hands on the sequel! Pikmin 2 is fun and sweet, improving on the original game with smoother graphics and game function. The quests range from easy to challenging and I needed an online walkthrough to help me get past some difficult parts. Id definitely recommend this game to friends who can see past the bright primary colors to a challenging puzzle-adventure game. Its fairly replayable because you can go back through to see how fast you can achieve the quests. Youll need a good walkthrough, so thank goodness lots of helpful folks online have written and posted them. Give the Pikmin world a try! Incredible Wacky FUN!! I adore this game. I liked the first one also, but this one is even better. There are more colors of Pikmin than before. Its even educational as you must strategize your use of Pikmin to help collect items. This is one of those slighltly indescribable Japanese games like katamari. Incredible Wacky FUN!! I adore this game. I liked the first one also, but this one is even better. The game was pretty fun with adding in whites and purples(go purples!) but there is downside with sacrifice for the new ones. I also hate how the dang ship talks to much. Its very annoying collecting all 10000 pokos to pay off the debt! WARNING: DO NOT READ ON IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW THE ENDING!!! I hate at the end how you are flying back all happy with enough pokos and find out LOUIE IS GONE! You go back to Hocotate and stupid fat Mr. President comes, and the greedy hog wants MORE MONEY! It was his stupid fault they went in debt! NOW you need to collect 201(201!??!) treasures(I only had 101 to pay off my debt) AND find Louie! I never got all the treasure, or found Louie (IF YOU DID, TELL ME WHERE HE IS!!!) Pikmin 2, Treasure Hoarding Yes I have played this game, and never beat Pikmin 1 since it was to dang hard. Olimar is returning with his friend to collect valuable "treasures" which happen to be everyday objects, but since they are only a few inches tall, everything is large. This game uses the old Red (fire resistant), Yellow (electric resistant), and Blue (water resistant) Pikmin adding white (poison resistant and treasure detector) and Purple (worth 10 regular Pikmin). It also enhances the classic play with two player challenges much like the original game where players work together to reach the end of a level within a specific time, while collecting the most treasure. While some argue that this is the better of the two Pikmin games, I believe that each stand on their own as creative and unique games that provide a different perspective on on not only everyday items but also gaming. pretty good by: Anonymous On: 2006-08-24 This game is the best Pikmin game ever!!!!!!!! But, the oly things that are bad about it are the pikmin dont stop talking ad it gets really anoing. secondly the new pikmin that htey add (white and purple) have to stay in the ship ad the only way they can recoloize is to go into caves... WHAT FUN IS THAT??? and thirdly there isnt a good place to go to recolonize, for example... In the first game if you hade a few days you could go back to the impact site and get more pikmin, and possibly get AT LEAST 100 MORE PIKMIN in this game you cant do that. you just get pikmin as you go along, and thats not fun. but all in all its a good game. And if your a person who doesnt get anoied easily then get it its worth the money. but remember to get the first one first!!!!! awesome game by: Anonymous On: 2006-08-01 interisting. great graphics and gameplay. I like the new pikmin in the game. Great for the adventerist ones ho liked to kick but along the way. Not for NONFUN PEOPLE. This game kills the first version. by: Anonymous On: 2006-07-01 This version is da bomb! Hi Im bob! In this game their are two new types of Pikmin. THe white pikmin get all the fun but not really. Red guys get FLAMETHROWERS! Burn Baddies, Burn!(Just Kiddin...) This Game Eliminates The First Version. by: Anonymous On: 2006-07-01 This game is da bomb! (Compared too the first version) Their is no time limit and two new types of pikmin:White and Purple! When I found out that white poisions the bad guys when they died I tought" The white guys get all the fun but not really because they get eaten" But I think Olimar and his buddy seem to enjoy the bad guys getting poisioned! Each pikmin has a special abillity: Blue pikmin can be in water, Yellow pikmin can jump really high, Red pikmin can stand fire, and as I told you before white pikmin poision! I think this game deserves a thumbs up! A game worth buying Wow what a great game. My husband cant get enough of this game. Its so cool for two persons to be able to play. I thought pikmin 1 was fun but pikmin 2 is the best. I love it. Any one can play this game. pikmin 2 totally rocks when pikmin 2 came out I thought it would be dumb because the first one was dumb I was wrong it was great just great and anyone you thinks its dumb Ill have to chat with you Incredibly addictive fun! I cant stop playing Pikmin 2! No worries if you never played the original Pikmin - this one is much more fun anyway. Describing the premise of this game is a little strange. You are on an alien planet trying to collect "treasures" to make money. The little Pikmin do your bidding - from carrying items, defeating baddies, busting down gates, building bridges and more. It sounds weird, but it is seriously addictive. If you are familiar with the original Pikmin, the new Pikmin is better in so many ways. In story mode, there is no limit to the number of days you can play, there are 2 new kinds of Pikmin, and you can also excite your Pikmin (make them faster and stronger) with a spray you can make from berries you collect. There is also a spray that will temporarily petrify baddies to make them easier to kill. There are also a number of caves you complete that have various levels you complete under ground (where time doesnt pass so you arent limited by the daylight factor like you are above ground). There are also two new modes in this Pikmin. Challenge mode pits you (or you and a partner) against a series of challenging maps. Its really fun to play this as a two person team and work together to solve the puzzles. The other new mode is a battle mode where you and a friend can pit your Pikmin against each other in head to head competition. This mode is also insanely fun and extremely addictive. There is only one thing I would change about Pikmin 2 and that would be a two player co-op story mode. Since there are two leaders anyway, this really wouldnt be difficult to implement in the same split-screen configuration as the challenge mode. It would be fun to complete the story mode as a team! Super fun game! by: Anonymous On: 2006-03-25 I think its really fun because its not hard to play and the pikmin are really cute. I started playing this game when I was only 6, and now Im 7. There are some challenges, but its still really fun. I just love this game! Super fun game! I think its really fun because its not hard to play and the pikmin are really cute. I started playing this game when I was only 6, and now Im 7. There are some challenges, but its still really fun. I just love this game! GREAT FUN!!! Great fun, exciting and even a bit scary a times, especially when those cute little guys get squashed or eaten. Really enjoy this game. A good adventure and graphics make it even better! Love It. Best Game Ever!!! by: Anonymous On: 2005-09-25 Pikmin 2 is a TON better then a lot of other games I have played. I t has a great story mode, 2p mode and I just love how cute the pikmin are. I would highly recomend this game to anyone!!!!!!!! Better than Pikmin 1! Pikmin 2 is very fun and MUCH better than Pikmin 1. In Pikmin 2 you do not have a time limit which makes the game much easier. Not to easy though, you have to beat tough bosses and some very hard bad guys all of which are cool and creative. Pikmin 2 has a good two-player mode in which you can battle your friends (Battle Mode) OR work together with them (Challenge Mode)! You need to have collected The Key to play Challenge Mode. Battle Mode and Challenge Mode are great! In Pikmin 2 you get two new kinds of Pikmin: purple and white along with all the originals (red, blue and yellow). There are four levels each full of caves, bosses, bad guys and treasures. This is a very good game and I suggest that you get it! Take a different view of the world Pikmin 2 is probably one of the best games that I played. I played over seventy hours of the game and Im still playing it. You have to play the game to appreciate it. Review points are averaged together. (9 score)Plotline: After crashlanding on an uncharted planet, Olimar gets help from the Pikmin to find the parts of his ship. Recently Olimar left the planet to return to his own to find out that his company is going bankrupt! Olimar must return to the planet with his trusty assistant Louie to save his company! (10 score)Graphics: The graphics and sound are what make Pikmin 2 one of the best games out there. The graphics clearly define how strange and unique our world is from ant(or Pikmin) eyes. The huge worlds are astounding to look at and even better to interact with. Just watching how the insects interact is awesome because thats how some real life bugs would act. The treasure is great because they are real life everyday things just laying around. (10 score) Sound: Just listening to this games sound and you would agree that this game has some of the best sounds. If you listened to the game sounds and then went outside, you couldnt tell the difference. The music is also great and fits the dungeons and levels nicely. I entered one level and heard some really creepy and scary music which means they want you to have a frightening and unknown experience down there in the dungeons because almost anything can happen. One time I picked up a bottle cap and found legs coming out of it only to learn that a spider was hiding under it! (9 score)Control: Simple control, A to punch or throw Pikmin, B to whistle Pikmin to you, Control pad buttons to change the color of pikmin and use berry sprays, L to change the camera view, R to zoom in, and Z to get an overhead view. (8)Multiplayer: Several levels to choose from and only one winner! After growing your army you march into battle against your opponent but there are bugs and enemies along the way which hinder your army. To win you have to collect 4 marbles(There are eight that are hidden everywhere) that are usually protected by a bug. When a Pikmin dies from an enemy unit a seed comes out of your onion so you dont run out of Pikmin. The real fun comes in when you collect a cherry and a randomly selected bug drops into the enemy base and starts pummeling them. There are several levels to choose from that come from the main game. Challenge can be tackled two or one player. You start with a limited number of Pikmin and you have to get the highest score within a set time limit. There are usually several sublevels and your time is increased when you enter the next sublevel. You need to collect treasure and bugs and leave through the geyser to win. If you lose all your Pikmin or your time, you will lose. (9)Glitches: A few glitches in the dungeons but it doesnt mess up gameplay. (10) Entertainment: The game is awesome and a blast to play. It starts out easy and the difficulty increases at the best rate I have ever seen in a game. The more you play the better you become. The game wouldnt be anything without a final boss and they put a crapload of a boss. The boss takes at least an hour to beat, now thats a boss! (9)Replay Value: After you beat the first part of the game you can still play the second part of the game which is going back and trying to collect all of the treasures. the game starts to lose its replay value after you see all of the dungeons and bosses. Overall Rating (Review points are averaged together):9.25-Awesome! A final word: Get this game, its awesome! Its my favorite game. A Minor Masterpiece The sequel to the 2001 cult classic Pikmin surpasses its predecessor in every imaginable way, and earns its place of honor among Nintendos elite list of first-party franchises. This unassuming and humble game presents us with the opportunity to fully appreciate small triumphs and failures in one of the most relaxing, original, and genuinely enjoyable takes on the real-time strategy genre ever devised. A simple interface, surprisingly deep play mechanics, and a loveable and wonderfully fleshed out cast create a must-have for Gamecube owners, and a model for Nintendos long held views on game design. The first Pikmin, a qirky and original Gamecube launch game, captivated those willing to give it a try with its elegant design and unique concepts. The sequel again places you in the shoes of the daring and miniscule space explorer Captain Olimar. This time he is joined by a sidekick of sorts... the gourmand Louie, a loud and funny shipboard computer, and two brand-new types of Pikmin, in a quest to save his company from bankruptcy. The inclusion of a second playable character who can be split up from Olimar to complete seperate tasks adds a whole new dimension to the multitasking that permeated the first game, and the elegant controls make switching back in forth between your flower-like legions second nature. Also new are randomly generated dungeons, which are both challenging and open up whole new worlds for the developers to explore the sense of scale. Theres no limit to how many days you can spend exploring the surface, which fixes the only real complaint that can be made about the first Pikmin. Finally, to complete the package theres an all-new two player option that offers both cooperative challenges and hectic deathmatches. The larger than life presentation of the mundane that proliferated the original returns, with every day objects appearing gargantuan in size through the eyes of our ant-sized heroes. Graphically Pikmin 2 is among the most beautiful and graceful games on the Gamecube, and the developers seem to relish in presenting such interesting artifacts as bottle caps, rusty coins, and of course ancient Nintendo paraphernalia, in all their glory. Among the many dramatic improvements in this sequel is the Piklopedia, a viewing gallery that catalogs every object that you collect and gives you often hilarious descriptions by Olimar and co. Some people may spend a good portion of their game time tanting creatures that theyve bested or oggling over the amount of detail that went into the rendering of a fried piece of ham. Pikmin 2 really delivers a consistent fantasy-reality for Olimar and shines in presentation. The score is probably the most relaxing video game soundtrack ever devised, and perfectly compliments the hynotic gameplay and graphics. If ever there was a perfect game to help you unwind, this is it. Also, there are a number of extremely well-done Full Motion Video sequences in the game that help propel the story, something that I didnt expect but was really impressed by. Pikmin 2 is the textbook example of a proper sequel. It retains only the essentials of the original, fixes the problems, and adds whole new layers of depth. I cant think of any other game that will probably be more overlooked, which is a shame cause it is a true gem. A minor Nintendo masterpiece. Suffers from sequelitis How often do you see a sequel to a movie that tries to outdo the original? Thats what happened here. The original Pikmin was a masterpiece. A unique game with peaceful play interrupted with violent outbursts. Pikmin 2 is just violent outbursts. Oh yeah they ruined my favorite part of the original game, challenge mode. Why, Nintendo, why.... ...why did you have to ruin such a good thing? My hours spent with the original Pikmin, chilling to the ambient music and exploring the gorgeous environments, were some of the best hours of my life. But this...all I can say is, it COULD have been amazing. The only "pro" here is all the little treasures you get to collect. Each one is completely unique, and although theyre all stuff that us normal people would consider trash (like bottle caps and empty cans), they have new names that make them sound glorious and awe-inspiring. Its hilarious to see. But are these funny items scattered throughout a new set of picture-book-pretty worlds to explore? NO! Instead, you get to experience the beautiful outdoor environments for a period of about four seconds before being forced into a long series of underground tunnels. Seriously, the entire game takes place in the tunnels! Each tunnel is nearly identical to the last, and it gets extremely boring. And if things could possibly get worse than that, there are no more logic-puzzles to solve. No, the only thing you do in these underground labyrinths is fight monsters! I didnt mind the fighting in the first game, since it not the whole focus, but here, it gets extremely repetitive, extremely fast. After a few hours worth of tunnel-crawling, I felt ready to cry from boredom and sheer disappointment. Words cannot describe the sadness this game caused me. When the first Pikmin released, I felt like I had been given a VIP pass to my own private wonderland. With this second entry, my trip to paradise got tied up in tunnels. Not as Good by: empressjenf On: 2005-04-26 I loved the first Pikmin game so much that I was extremely excited when I found out they would be making a sequel. After reading great reviews, I was even more excited. When I finally got the game I played for two days then stopped. The game was fun but very repetitive. The only thing that brought down this game was the caves. Level after level of the same basic thing - and thats pretty much all there is to the game. The main thing I loved about the first one was the large, open areas. Being inside the caves is restricting and at times difficult to see - mostly because of the camera angle restriction. It is a fun game, but it could have been much better. Flora and Fauna Do Battle Again Theyre cute. Theyre colorful. They can pummel large insects to the ground in under five seconds. So begins another chapter in the world of Captain Olimar and his flowery cohorts in Nintendos Pikmin 2, the bizarre but addictive sequel to the 2001 hit, Pikmin. Its been three years since Nintendo unleashed their realtime strategy hit during the launch of the Gamecube, but Pikmin 2 picks up right where the original left off. The storylines simple: Upon returning to his homeworld following the first games misadventures, Captain Olimar finds his employer, Hocotate Freight broke and in dire need of 10,000 bucks (or pokos, if you want to be literal). When it turns out a "souvenir" Olimar brought home for his kid is actually a valuable treasure on their planet, the company President sends the Captain and his eggplant-headed coworker Louie back to Earth to collect more in hopes of covering their massive debt. Once again recruiting the plantlike troopers that helped Olimar before, gamers tackle the dangers of your not-so-average backyard in an all-out scavenger hunt to save Hocotate Freight from ruin. Bizarre as it sounds, Pikmin vets and newcomers alike are in for a real treat this time around. Nintendo has discarded the originals 30-day limit in the sequel, giving players infinite time to expand and explore in their quest for hundreds of treasures. Along with the yellow Pikmins sudden, unexplained affinity to electricity, also added to the sequel are two totally new species of Pikmin - poisonous white and sumo-esque purple - both specially-grown to add the often frustrating element of ensuring their protection during difficult scenarios. Keeping up with that busy schedule of hauling treasure and kicking bulborb-butt is also given a new spin, as Olimar can delegate tasks to his sidekick Louie when forced to babysit his own busy group of Pikmin. With just a few changes, the idea of swarming a hundred of your flower-headed drones around the unsuspecting natives is now just one of the chaos-inspiring ventures that will keep gamers glued to the screen far longer than the original Pikmin could ever hope to last. If that isnt enough, the sequel finally lets a second player in on the fun. Gamers can finally test their skills in a head-to-head contest with the all new Battle Mode, pitting players against each other in several intense collecting scenarios. Unfortunately, solitary gamers wont be able to take on this new mode themselves, as no AI opponent is available to challenge your skills. To get the most out of Pikmin 2, youll have to find a friend willing to indulge in the oddity. They might even forgive your weirdness in choosing this game once theyve played it themselves. For anyone who played the original many moons ago, things havent changed much as far as the look and feel of Pikmin 2. While sleeker menus and solid CGI cutscenes have been added, the graphics during actual gameplay are pretty much the same as they were before. Given how vibrant the original looked, thats not really a bad thing the second time around. Some shots look a bit blurred or choppy close-up, but as far as critique goes, its scraping the bottom of the barrel. This game, simply put, delivers as well as any. The sound department maintains its efficiency from the first game as well. Sound effects are clear and plentiful, with anything from the whistling of snoring insects to the frightened screams of your Pikmin keeping gamers alert to the situation. With how well everything is executed in-game, its hard to believe that the "voice acting" in cut scenes is irritatingly inaudible. The music department is often lacking, though its few tracks blend in with their corresponding scenarios. Its nothing sensational, but as far as getting the job done, thats what Pikmin 2 does. Those who enjoyed the original Pikmin will find it almost impossible to not feel the same for Pikmin 2, if not better. An unlimited adventure gives gamers countless hours of gameplay, including payoffs in the form of a "Piklopedia" on the planets animals and plantlife, the "Treasure Horde" of oft-humourous descriptions (and related mind-wanderings) on your collected litter, and several unlockable secrets and challenges. While a Co-op Mode would have been nice for tackling the main game, the overall contents still a huge improvement over the original. The fear of 15 hours and done is gone; enjoy Pikmin 2, and youre in for days of addictive strategy mayhem. Find a friend, and this game may not be collecting dust for a long time. size doesnt matter when it comes to pikmin...... this game is the best!!!!!!!The two player battle mode is so sweet, also the one player mode is very cool and challenging i played the first pikmin and liked it but this just rules definetley worth it Pikmin 2! This game is great!!! If youve played the first Pikmin game then you must buy this one. There are countless enemies and creatures that are actually recorded in a "Piklopedia". Four huge areas that are very detailed and lively make each "day" fun. There is a new feature that allows you to switch from one commander to another to get more done. Two new Pikmin found only underground are other new features. <br /> There is now a two player mode that is very fun but to be honest, could have been better. It can only take place underground. Not bad but dissapointing. It also should have had a game type to see who can grow the most pikmin. The real way mutiplayer is played is you and a friend each have an "onion", one blue, the other red. in order to win you must get four yellow marbles or the marble at your enemys onion. All in all this game is a great game. Yo Yo Yo by: Anonymous On: 2005-02-10 Yo this game is da bomb.it has good graphic, it is about a mans company was bankrupt so olimar and his assisant Louie will come with you.later on louie gets lost.it has 2 player battle.it has 2 new pikmin purple and white and has underground area that has little bulbmin that follow you. bulbmin are fused with bulborb and pikmin, you can see them in some underground area.so get it, its COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Significantly better! As much as I loved the first game I enjoy and love this sequel much more. The 30-day time limit was always getting on my nerve; I had to rush through every level without being able to enjoy the game. Fortunately the time limit has been completely eliminated from this game, this way the enjoyment level of this game is such higher and the quality of the game is significantly improved. Despite of the extremely annoying time limit in the first game it was still something completely new in the gaming world, the pure originality of the game was conceivable and despite its obvious originality I still find the sequel to be a significant improvement over the first game. Story: picks off right from where the last game ended Olimar returns but only to find out that his boss is on rink of bankruptcy, so, he sets off once again to the world of Pikmin, but this time to collect everything he can to pay off his boss dept. But you need not fear, this time he has a partner in crime: Louie. Graphics: stunning but thats what to be expected from every new game released these days. The texture is incredible and the detailed graphics are totally incomparable, nice backgrounds as well. Light and shadow effects are also amazing. Audio/ music: great audio and even more amazing game score. The score is totally immersive; most of the songs are often quite but beautiful lullabies which suits this game perfectly. The audio side is impeccable as well. Closing comment: Pikmin 2 is a significant improvement over the first which was great; this sequel has so much more to offer a gamer, more longevity, better game play, and improved graphics and audio/ music. VERY FUN! This game is the bomb. It has two brand new Pikmin, and is very addicting. Your little computer/rocket thingy is very annoying and sometimes repeats itself. Other than that, this game is perfect. When you first play the game, make sure that you dont get your Pikmin into the water. Only the blue Pikmin can survive in the water. There are no more day limits like in the original where you only have ___ amount of days to explore the planet. The only downside is that the days are really short. I hardly have time to do anything. This game has many new features and it is a must buy. You use 2 space-men to lead an army of pikmin to find treasure to repay a 10,000 dollar debt. You raise these pikmin from seeds and pull them out of the ground. Both my 6 year oldbrother and i loved this game. It is a must buy! Really really really REALLY COOL GAME!!!!!! by: Anonymous On: 2004-12-05 This is an awesome game, and its even better than the first! In this game, Olimar returns to the planet of the pikmin, with his new assistant Louie. There are many treasures to collect(I wont say how many), and its really fun! OH-MY-GOD! Pikmin2 is totally addictive, amazing graphically and has everything you wished the first had. I love it! Pikmin 2 Is Great Pikmin 2 is a great game and I hope you get it. It has great gameplay and graphics. It is a challenging strategy game and really tests the mind. What you do is you walk around with your 5 types of Pikmin and you find treasure so that you can pay off your debt. There is no time limit like the prequel, making it more fun, you can do what you want with out having to worry that you will run out of time. Your five Pikmin (red, who can withstand fire; Blue, who can walk in water; Yellow, who can jump higher and withstand electricity; White, who can withstand poison gas and find burried objects; Purple, who account for the strength of 10 pikmin. I myself have played the first Pikmin, and I enjoyed it a lot, but I think Pikmin 2 is a lot more fun. In Pikmin 2 you meet the same color pikmin as in the first Pikmin (red, yellow, and blue)but you also find two other colors of pikmin (purple and white). Each color of pikmin have their own special ability. (Spoiler warning) red pikmin can withstand fire and is slightly stronger than the other pikmin except purple, purple is ten times stronger than red pikmin and stuns some enemies if throne on top of, white pikmin are poisonous and can withstand poison as well white pikmin are also faster, yellow can withstand electricity and get throne higher than other color of pikmin, and blue can go into water without drowning. Most of the enemies from the first Pikmin are in Pikmin 2 with some other enemies that get added. In the first Pikmin Olomar crashes into a strange uncharted planet, he later escaped the planet. In this game you control your little creatures called Pikmin. You can batlle other monsters or Pikmin. You throw them to make them attack. Once they die they reappear in your base. (two-player only.) You should really try it. Youre going to love it. Dont look at its age limit, it is acyua;;y for everybody including teens. (as myself is one.) Best GameCube Game So Far I just finished Pikmin 2 this week, having found all the treasure, and Ive already started playing it again in the hope that I can finish it in less than the 45 game-days it took the first time. The cooperative mode is fun to play with my son (though I wish it wasnt timed so aggressively) and, though Im not competitive by nature, I played the combat mode against my son last night and had a lot of fun with it too (we tied, three games apiece). Heartily recommended. THIS GAME IS SOOOOOOO COOOOOL IT was better than pikmin1.It was the best stragegy game i ever played. My favorite pikmin is the purple pikmin. A pretty fun rental but strictly a rental by: canadian3 On: 2004-10-17 Back when the Gamecube was launched, a game called Pikmin was released around the same time. Many called it innovative and fun and original. I called it fun for the first hour. After awhile, everything felt the same. Flash forward couple years and we have the sequel. While it does improve many things over the original, it also keeps some of its flaws. Story: What little story there is anyway. Captain Olimar from part I returns to his planet only to have his company 10,000 in debt. Your job, along with a companion Louie, is to go back to the Pikmin planet and get treasures which will net big bucks and pay off the debt. Theres the one problem: in part I, it was parts to fix your ship. Now its goodies to sell. Same premise in the end. Graphics: I could call the game quite colorful. And also its awesome to see 100 Pikmin on the screen. The levels are okay though. Each Pikmin has a unique look and ability and it translates well. Sound/Music: The music can range from light-hearted to almost epic upbeat movie style. As for the voices, its like Animal Crossing where it sounds like gibberish. The Pikmin still sound the same, singing a cute song when theyre marching or doing a depressing death squeak. Gameplay: Basically the same as Part I only with a new partner so you can do one thing while teammate does another without going back a long way. The other is 2 new Pikmin but heres the main ones: Red: resistant to fire, this is your main Pikmin. By the time I found the other colors, I had about 400 of these ones. Yellow: very light to throw and can destroy electrical gates. Blue: can walk in water(the others drown). Purple: new one and its basically the sumo Pikmin. Very strong and can lift 10 times its weight but is slow. White: new one and looks like an albino alien. If they get eaten by an enemy they poison it and they can destroy gates which have toxic vents below them. The one thing I dont like about the 2 new ones is that you have to go into a dungeon and throw some of yours into these flowers which will convert yours into one of the 2 new colors. The 3 main colors you can get 100 in a day just by getting tablets or killing monsters and transporting their bodies to your onion(thats where the Pikmin live). The 2 new ones on the other hand only give you about 3-4 each flower so it takes awhile to amass an army of them. The bosses and some enemies can be equally frustrating. Some monsters can eat an entire group of your guys at once and when youre in a 7 level dungeon, it doesnt help that you cant regenerate any more or get reinforcements. If you do want reinforcements, you literally have to forfeit your treasure youve found and quit the level entirely. Other than that, it really is an innovative game marred by incredibly cheap enemies and some unfairness in its mechanics but Id suggest you rent this but youll have fun while doing so. Unconventional fun I enjoyed the first Pikmin game and hoped for a sequel. We got one. Pikmin 2 is better in every way that the first one. There is no longer a time limit that you much beat to finish the game. There are more types of Pikmin which gives you more ways to solve problems. Pikmin 2 even features a two player split screen capture the flag style game for when you want to play with a friend. The graphics and sound on this game are top notch! The graphics look like something you could have seen on Saturday morning television and the sound is excellent -- it even produces Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound. Pikmin Forever! I enjoyed the first Pikmin game when it came out. I was able to make it through the whole game in 11 days without loss of life. Pikmin 2 has kept the same charm of the first game while adding the benefit of another set of hands to help. One of the Greatest Gcn Games! Pikmin 2 is a great game; fun, intelligent, "viewtiful" and Multiplayer. If u liked the first one, then dont waste time asking to yourself if this game is good, and go buy it, because you cant go wrong with this one. Pikmin 2 rules!!! One of the Greatest Gcn Games! My kids absolutely love it My kids loved Pikmin and are even more crazy about Pikmin 2. They love the new Pikmin colors and enemies. We love it as parents because its not just mindless battles and violence. They do have to think and use the map to find the Pikmin and the parts. I recommend this for anyone. Not bad, but I had hoped for more Good points: Most of the same good stuff from P1 No 30 day time limit 2nd captain character (speeds up gameplay) Fun new bosses Bad points: Very few new puzzles. If you played P1, then you know about everything Replenishing White/Purple Pikmin is annoying/boring Too many "Stupid Little Baddies" - it gets boring Dungeons get tedious Great fun! Dont let the description fool you, this game takes a bit of strategy to beat. Its not difficult, but challenging in spots as your Pikmen dont always head in favorable directions. I was pleasantly surprised by this game. Go, My Slaves! Well, Nintendo finally released Pikmin 2. And they made it perfect. The greatest thing about this game is that they took out the 30-day time limit from the last one, which made the first Pikmin annoyingly rushed. Anyways, the graphics in this game are lush, beautiful, and fun to look at. The "small world" theme is still here, but more so. Every Pikmin looks detailed, even when you have 100 of them on the field. The Pikmin are small plantlike creatures, in case you didnt know, and they do whatever you command. Only now they have a lot more personality. For example, they will sometimes hum, play with each other, and even ignore you if you treat them poorly!(if you continualli throw them into water, poisen, fire, etc.) The goal of the game is to hoard enough treasure to pay off your companys debt with your assistant, Louie. You are Olimar. While the teamate thing seems like a gimmick at first, you will use your seperate squads of Pikmin to solve various puzzles. You will explore caves throughout the game, which are like ant holes. TONS of treasure can be found in these caves, along with a variety of creatures. These creatures are also found on the field, and can eat, smash, etc. your Pikmin, reducing your numbers. But your Pikmin arent helpless, they can swarm and defeat the enemy, and carry the corpse to their base, producing more Pikmin. Each Pikmin has different abilities, such as swimming, immune to poison, immune to fire, immune to electricity, digging, power, high throwing, and a couple more. The variety in this game is astounding. Humor is in the game, as well. The treasures you find are replicas of real life stuff, such as lipstick, marbles (called crystillized telekinesis), bottle caps (quenching emblem), and the like. The game seems to take place on Earth, according to various clues. This game is outstanding. Dont rent, BUY! This game has tons of stuff to do! This review just scratched to surface of the game! Great fun! Dont let the description fool you, this game takes a bit of strategy to beat. Its not difficult, but challenging in spots as your Pikmen dont always head in favorable directions. I was pleasantly surprised by this game. Sweeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!! I just love this game!!!!! I have soooooooo much fun playing it. When I played the first Pikmin I hated it. So I thought this would be the same. But when I found out there wasnt a time limit on how many days you could spend on it I jumped right on it. I bought it on the day it came out the minute the store opened!!!! The aim is to find 10,000 pokos worth of treasure on the planet of the pikmin. You go around with your army of pikmin attacking enemies, diving into caves and collecting as much treasure as you can. Also, try the new two player mode and the challenge mode. There the super fun. There are also two new types of pikmin... Purple that are extra strong as well as extra heavy and the White that are imune to the poisinous gasses and can sense treasure under the soil. If you love wacky adventures you would absolutly love this new game. Sweeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!! I just love this game!!!!! I have soooooooo much fun playing it. When I played the first Pikmin I hated it. Sorry abou the last, here is a real one by: Anonymous On: 2004-09-08 So, sorry, but my first "review" if you will, was just a rant, but its true though. HOWEVER, here is a real review of the game, as I have now purchased it. Ahem: As many people have pointed out, the two key diferences in the game are this: New Pikmin, and no time limit. There is a time limit on the days, but just not on the number of days you can be on Earth. But the sun dial is still there. One thing that I have noticed the most about P2 is that there really is more stradegy involved. In the first one, it was pretty straight forward what you had to do. In the second one however, there just seems to be a little bit more room to explore and to figure new things out. This may be because of the lack of stress caused by a day limit and Louie, you new recruit. But, really, the game is not to much unlike the old one, just better really. I think that Pikmin had alot going for it, it just was not very developed. P2 picks that up and works with it. Overall there is just more to the game. In essence, its the same game, just expanded. So, if you liked the first one, give this a try. I would not say buy it, because as with the first one, its short. But if your just looking for a fun little romp, its very much worth renting. Buy it if you like going back and re-doing things, and trying to beat scores and whatnot. I cant say much about the multiplayer, as I have not tried it yet. But, there you go, a honest review. Neinamen (they wont let me do more than one, but the other one had a good point to it) Sorry abou the last, here is a real one So, sorry, but my first "review" if you will, was just a rant, but its true though. What a difference a sequel can make Wow. Ive gotta say being a HUGE fan of the original game, this one has really been kickin my butt. Its a very different game really-much more difficult and even frustrating at times. Where as the first game relied on tracking down parts for your ship and carrying large beasties back to your onions to spawn more pikmin within a set time limit, this one instead seems to focus on EXTERMINATING your pikmin every chance it gets. Most of the game takes place in underground caverns which start out rather fun and enjoyable but soon end up frustrating and tedious. Ive come to guard my pikmins lives like an overly protective father often sacrificing one of my Leaders (Olimar or Louie) to go to battle in their place just to keep them safe for a few more seconds. Its also agrivating that making new pikmin is nearly impossible in these underground caverns and the game seems to really deal out some uncharacteristic cheap moves. (Bombs dropping on Pikmin youve trusted to go off on their own and take a treasure back to the ship, collectibles that turn into poisonous spiders a few moments after you begin to carry them, and many, many, MANY others) Keeping your Pikmin alive just to see the next level of the cavern is really the ultimate chore. Dont get me wrong, I still think this is a great game, but it will never replace the first one for me. Half the fun of the first Pikmin was bringing huge slaughtered beasts back to the onions to see how many pikmin would be produced from them. Now, its a mad scramble just to keep a handful of pikmin alive. And unfortunately-when your Pikmin actually slaughter a beast without being wiped out (in the caverns) all their hard work and sacrifice earns nothing but a little worthless money instead of new Pikmin. Whats up with that? I still recommend everyone to get this game, because afterall its still better than your average video game-Its still a great game-Its Pikmin afterall. But it will never replace the charm or the "beat the clock" fun of the first game. Hey, look at me be some rambling idiot Hey guyz, I really loved the first game. It was so good, but not the time limit, that was LAME. But this game looks even better than number one. There are 2 people in it, olimar and some other guy, so you can control more pikmin at one time I think. And it has a 2 player mode. I HAVE NOT PLAYED IT YET, but it looks good, and I liked the first one, so I suggest you spend 50 bucks on it, even though I have not played it and have no idea what im talking about. PEOPLE!!! If you have not played the game, dont bloody review it. No one cares what you think the game is GOING to be like, people care about what the game IS like. Its that simple. The point of reviews on amazon is so people who KNOW WHAY THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT can give helpfull pointers and facts about the gameplay and whatnot. Pikmin/Crack When I first fired this little sequel up, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had never played the original, but felt compelled to give this incarnation a go. And I havent really been able to stop guiding my little multi-colored aliens around since that fateful afternoon. I dont have much to complain about, if anything, but Ill get to that later. First though, I talk about the obsession. What started as a scavenger hunt in the snowy landscape of the first level, became a compulsive drive to collect every piece of the wonderful looking treasures. Be it a ripe, red strawberry, a little jar of Carmex chapstick, or a heart shaped diamond, everything in the diverse levels looks great. Even the water, which sadly claimed the lives of 54 pikmin early on in the game. I might as well cut in here with the negativity, my only problem with this game was temorary when it lasted. See, having never played the first game, I didnt know Pikmin couldnt swim, well, all but the blue ones. I wish there would have been a bit of a warning. But I guess thats my fault for never playing the original. I do have to admit though, watching the adorable, tiny red creatures drown was a bit amusing. Which brings me to the sound of the game, which is great. Your little rainbow of workers hum as they carry the bodies of viciously beaten enemies back to the ship. And another thing I found to be quite entertaining was the music that the camera stick produces when you move it around. You use it to guide the Pikmin as a group, and every direction has a different melody, leaving you just rotating the little yellow stick to produce background music for the humming song of your workers. Now, about the workers. There are five different Pikmin in the game, red, yellow, and blue, which all return from the original, with the addition of two new ones. The purple pikmin, which are slower in running, yet have the strength of ten regular pikmin when carrying stuff. And the white pikmin, who are very small, fast, and poisonous. Which comes in handy for bosses that eat pikmin, just take a group of white ones out there and poison the [guy] to death. Youll find that they are quite potent. Every Pikmin, except purple, has an immunity. Red, fire. Blue, water. Yellow, electricity. And white, poison. This brings a bit of strategy to the table, which is always welcome in my book. You also have the ability to control two characters simultaneously in the game. Olimar and Louie, who are searching the mysterious planet (Earth) for treasures so they can repay the debt their boss has found miself in. 10,000 bucks, which makes the single player experience last plenty long. And after you get tired of the single player game, you can move over to the challenge mode, which you can do with 1 or 2 players. And then there is a 2 player mode where you can challenge a friend to be the best Pikmin laborer of the neighborhood. Now you can take my advice and buy this game immediately, or be a jerk and let thousands of helpless aliens die on the shelves of unloving retail stores. The choice is yours, so make it quick. My ratings (on a scale of 1-5) Graphics-5 Control-4.5 Sound-5 Overall-5 A Classic I just got the game and I love it. I think its better than the first because it has two more Pikmin and has no time limit. There are more areas to explore and you get to go underground. The graphics are very nice. I highly recommend everyone to buy this game. Addictive! by: Anonymous On: 2004-09-03 I am thirteen, just to let you know. I have played and own both Pikmin 1 & 2. I just bought Pikmin 2 today, and it is an AWESOME game! Im sure you already know the storyline and new features, so I wont waste time covering that. Anyways, the graphics seem to be a bit better and really look good in the opening cinema. There are many new enemies, including Snow Bulborbs (they are white) and some type of dandylion that springs out of the ground and devours Pikmin. The cave levels are quite interesting and fun. There is still a sun meter, but you have an unlimited amount of days. The purple pikmin each have the strength of 10 normal pikmin and are extremely handy. 10 purple can defeat a giant spotty bulborb in instants and 1 purple thrown on top of a dwarf bulborb twice in a row will defeat it. When you throw a purple it automatically butt-slams onto the ground (or a Bulborb) and jiggles the controller. Both the White and Purple Pikmin are stored in compartments in Olimars ship, since they dont have an Onion. I have not found the white pikmin yet, so I cant really say anything about them. Some of the odds and ends you can collect are a 7Up bottle cap and halves of an Earth globe. It seems obvious that the planet of the Pikmin is Earth due to several different things such as a Bulborb sleeping directly in the middle of a giant water meter, a (very detailed) Duracell battery, paper bags, and smashed pop cans lying around. Also, one of the things that Olimars ships computer can do is scan and gather data from the halves of the Earth globe and unlock more places to land on and explore. Challenge Mode can be unlocked once a certain item is found in the game. I have not yet been able to take advantage of the 2 player modes yet, but since it is one of the main features of the game, I assume it is very fun. The game also gives you very detailed statistics such as telling you how many pikmin youve lost to individual species of enemies and how many of those enemies youve defeated. Here is my overall for it: Pros: New colors of Pikmin Two playable characters No limit on days Caves Cons: No Onions for new colors of Pikmin Purple Pikmin are extremely slow unless they are matured into flowers Overall Ratings Graphics 5/5 Music 5/5 Sound Effects 3/5 (The Pikmins little song(s) are extremely annoying) Gameplay 5/5 Addictive! The bad stuff= timed, short game boring stuff to collect. the good stuff =good graphics, amusing. now pikmin 2 is not timed, has good graphics, 2 players, more pikmin, better treasures and is amusing, too. the bad stuff about pikmin 2 is that it is SHORT like the first one. I suggest renting before buying it. pikmin 2 pikmin 2 is a great action/stratagy for education I beat the first pikmin 3 times. if your a pikmin fan as much as I am youll like pikmin 2 coming augest 30 P.S. 2 new pikmin white pikmin & purple pikmin see ya!! i love pikmin by: Anonymous On: 2004-08-27 (: although the game hasnt come out yet it has to be great. :)(: i love the first one. :) (: i havt beaten it yet. :) (: but i still love it. :) (: PIKMIN RULE!!!! :):):):):):):):):):):):):(:(:(: Pikmin 2- everything a sequal should be Pikmin. Is one of the most intriguing, and impressive games I have ever played. This is why I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the sequal for a very long time. The sequal will be realeased in 5 days, on August 30th. Ive heard so much about the game, I cant wait to get my hands on it! Theres a bushel of new enemies and hazards to combat or avoid, along with some from the first game. There are also, two additional types of Pikmin, each with a special ability. The two new types of pikmin join the originals and Captain Olimar along with his new assistant to save his company from going bankrupt by collecting items on the planet and bringing them back for profit. Red pikmin are the second strongest fighters, and can withstand searing flames, Yellow pikmin are the lightest, and can be thrown the highest, and are immune to electric shocks, Blue pikmin are the only swimmers, and can even rescue drowning pikmin, Purple pikmin are incredibly strong, but rather slow, and ONE can carry an item that would normaly take 10 pikmin to carry! White pikmin are toxic to most enemies on the planet when swallowed, can be exposed to poison fumes, can detect burried treasures, and are the fastest runners. These skills and abilities will be put to use throughout the game as you discover the pikmin variety. The game sounds terrific and much more advanced than the first. The scenery will change from lush sunfilled areas, to dark caverns and snowy tundra. In every reigon there are items of different value to find and retrieve to pay off the debt of 10,000 pokos. The sequal seems to be everything it should be, exciting and new, but brings back some of the original, just to show you how much it has improved. The game will challenge you to use your mind and is already my new FAVORITE game! Pikmin 2! OK, I played the demo at a store. It featured the title screen and the challange mode. I tell you about both. The title screen. First the word Nintendo shows up. Pikmin start jumping on the letters. Every time you play, they jump differently. Then, you go to the tittle screen, where a group of Pikmin are making the words Pikmin 2. I found some secrets about the title screen: Press the R button and the Pikmins will make the word Nintendo. Press the X button to make a bettle appear. Use the c-stick to move the bug around. The Pikmin will attack it Press the Y button to make a Spooty Bulborb appear. Use the c-stick to move it around. Press the B button to make it eat Pikmin. Press L to make everything normal again. OK, on to the challange mode. Great graphics, great music, and really fun! You get a number of Pikmin and go in a cave. You have to find a key and take it back to the ship top (The top of the ship comes underground with you to collect treasure.)to open the hole to the next level. To beat it, get all the items, dont kill any Pikmin, and finish before time runs out. The New Pikmin (The new Pikmin you get by throwing a Pikmin into a Purple or White flower. They dont have and onyon.) White They are invincable to poison and are poisonius. They are small and fast. They can also dig for treasure. (Tip: In a battle, feed the monster white Pikmin to poison it.) Purple They are 10 times stronger and slower than normal Pikmin. You cant throw them to far. (Tip: Get the Purples flowered fast. The leaf ones a so slow, you have to keep going back to get them.) BUY THIS GAME! ITS HAS TO BE GOOD! MR. MATOYO MADE IT! Pikmin 2 trumps the original in every conceivable way Pikmin 2 is the sequel to the mildly popular Pikmin. While Pikmins core gameplay was really solid, I didnt find there to be much of a compelling reason to collect the various items, and finish the game. Moreover, the time limit meant that once my 30 days ran out, I did not feel like going back and playing through the game again just to try and beat it. That said, Pikmin 2 has none of these flaws, it is a true AAA title, and a game that any gamer should own. The Pikmin The key difference in the Gameplay this time around is the inclusion of two all new Pikmin. While the red, blue, and yellow Pikmin are featured again in this game, the stars of the show are really the all new purple and white Pikmin. Each of your Pikmin has a different elemental attribute (save the purple ones, they rock without it): red is fire, blue is water, yellow is electricity, and white is poison. Each of these Pikmin is immune to their respective element whereas others are weak against it. This opens up many new possibilities for puzzle solving, as you often find a wall that is imbued with a certain element, and you dont have the color required to break it down. Beyond that each has their own "special ability": red is stronger in battle, blue can walk through water, yellow can reach high places, and white poison enemies after being eaten as well as having the ability to detect hidden treasure. While these various abilities are all quite useful in solving different puzzles and opening up new areas, the star of the show is really the purple Pikmin. These guys are huge. Each one counts for ten Pikmin when carrying items, and can easily handle any monster in battle. If you throw a purple Pikmin directly on top of a small enemy it will kill it instantly. These guys are your new heavy offensive units. The twist to this situation is that you cannot spawn white and purple Pikmin in the same way you create the rest of them. You can only create these new colors of Pikmin by throwing differently colored Pikmin into purple or white flowers thus transforming them. Each flower can only transform five Pikmin before it withers up. This means that preservation of these units is much more important, as you cannot merely go around and find flowers and gather more of your helpful purples and whites. You are always limited in the number that you have, and much constantly be on the lookout, lest you lose your precious purple guys. Of course, making matters even more difficult is the fact that these transformation flowers can only be found in another new addition to the game, the caves. Caves The caves are another delightful new addition to the Pikmin series. Caves are multi-tiered levels in which you must delve deeper and deeper finding items and fighting off enemies in order to reach the bottom. The great thing about the caves is that the time meter stops while you are in one, so you can really take your time without having to worry about getting your Pikmin back to the ship before nightfall. Also, you can save between each level in a cave making it easier to retry your mistakes if you happen to lose 20 Pikmin because you just werent watching your back. Caves are the only places where you can change your Pikmin into white and purple, so every time you find one is like a godsend. However, you must be careful not to bring too few of the other colors with you, lest you reach a point where you have no yellows left, and you cant get past the electric traps blocking your way (or some such similar situation). Of course the best part of the caves is the new addition of the bosses. These are huge unique enemies that can single handedly rip through your Pikmin armies if you arent careful. Strategy is really required in dealing with these guys, as I have found myself losing 50+ Pikmin in boss battles. The coolest thing about the bosses though, is that once you beat them you will get upgrades. These upgrades take the form of such things as an item detector and a fireproof suit. All in all, the caves are a welcome addition to the game. They help to liven things up a bit, and break you out of the routine of searching the overworld for various items. Enemies The enemy variety in this game is truly impressive. There are so many new enemies, and each of one them is exquisitely modeled. Some of these enemies will tower as high as more than a hundred Pikmin, and are extremely threatening. Some can be easily killed by 1 or 2 Pikmin, whereas others will take all of your might to defeat, making there a broad range of wild creatures which you encounter. Enemies include such terrifying things as monsters that burrow under the ground with only their eyes (which happen to look like flowers) peering out, and which will pop up and loom over your Pikmin eating countless numbers if you are caught off guard. The aforementioned bosses are truly a sight to behold. From a giant worm which kills your Pikmin by rolling over them, to a huge mechanical spider which stomps your troops to death, there is a lot to be afraid of. These bosses are capable of taking out up to twenty Pikmin in one blow, so you must constantly be watching out. In addition to this, is the pleasant inclusion of a sort of terrarium in between levels in which you can examine any of the various enemies which you have already vanquished. You can view them in their natural habitat and throw PikuPiku carrots at them to see their attack patterns. This a nice little inclusion, and the lens blurring while using the terrarium helps it really feel like you are hiding in the bushes watching these enemies. Items The items in this game are really far cooler than the ship parts in the previous one. Each item is superbly modeled and looks surprisingly similar to its real world counterpart. I hope Nintendo was getting money from advertisers for this game, as there is an intense amount of product placement present. Items are so varied, that it is always neat to see what you will dig up next. Oftentimes they are as mundane as a bottle cap (7-up and Dr. Pepper caps are both included), but sometimes they are as cool as a gorilla skull or a jar of Kiwi shoe polish! Of course, much like the enemies, in between levels, you can view the items you have collected which really allows to see just how well modeled they are. The lighting in this item viewer is really nice, and adds a softness to the picture, making it feel more realistic. Co-op Mode Co-op mode is a welcome addition to the game. It adds a whole lot of replay value, and really helps to make the game even more fun than it would be otherwise. Co-op mode consists of a bunch of challenge levels which can be played with one or two players (although I fail to see why you would ever do these one player). These challenges are constructed much like the caves in single player mode. Each challenge consists of multiple levels where you try and collect as many items as you can, and you must find a key to get to the next level of the challenge. There is a time limit however, so get used to failing on some of the harder levels. This mode is a whole lot of fun, and, seeing as there are 30 levels, lasts for at least 8 hours, possibly more if you are going to try to go for perfects on every level. I for one am glad Nintendo decided to fill this game with as many options as they could. It really shows that they put time into this game. Gameplay Ok, this is where the game really shines. Much of the core gameplay remains constant from the first iteration in the series. However, there are so many new additions to the formula that it really does feel like a whole new game. This game is much more relaxed than the first one because of the abandonment of the 30 day time limit. It is really easier to let yourself go and just get immersed in the game and the challenges you face. New powers like the red and purple juices allow you to boost your Pikmins speed and attack and also petrify enemies for short periods of time. This adds another element of strategy, as you must identify the key situation in which to use your difficultly won juices for their optimal effect. The varying attributes of the Pikmin are a great change from the first game. Much more planning is needed in figuring out how to access different areas and collect various items. Beyond that the purple and white Pikmin are just really cool. They look awesome, and are remarkably useful in many different situations. This doesnt mean that you neglect your other Pikmin, they are necessary for accomplishing your goals. But perhaps you might love the purple and white ones just a little more. The new boss battles are really fun; and it is great to get rewarded for defeating them by not just getting money, but actually upgrading your character in some way. Graphics Graphically this game looks great. There is just so much going on at once, with each Pikmin appearing to act independently of his companions. Sure there are some muddy textures here and there, but the items are superbly modeled, and the creatures so well animated, that this is something that is easy to overlook. The coolest part of this game graphically is just watching your hordes of Pikmin move around from various angles. They just look so cool when walking around; it is something that can only be adequately described by playing the game. Each Pikmin seems to have a mind of his own. Some appear to be stupider than others and will constantly fall behind and wander off on their own, causing you to curse them (and sometimes feed them to a wandering creature). It is touches like this though, that add character to the game, and make you love your Pikmin army even more. My Verdict BUY THIS GAME! This is one of the most truly enjoyable gaming experiences I have had in a long time. There is just so much to do in this game. It is miles above its predecessor, so anyone who even vaguely enjoyed that game will love this one. This is a game that has not received much hype lately because the flash factor is not as high as something like RE4 or the new Zelda, but that doesnt mean it should be ignored. Pick this one up as soon as it hits US stores. You will not regret it. Pikmin 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by: Anonymous On: 2004-07-10 I cant wait till Pikmin 2 releases in stores. I think the purple pikmin and white pikmin will be so cool though you can only get them underground because they dont have Onions. Better than the first! I got the japanese version of the game and wow its more challenging and more fun than the last. You get to fight more enemies, use more pikmin types, and go through many tough obsticles. The downside was I thought there was a two player co-op in story mode, but just in versus and challenge mode which you get after beating the game if my memory serves me right. So when the game comes out, I highly suggest getting it. Beat 1 onward to 2! by: Anonymous On: 2004-07-08 I LOVE THIS GAME ITS UNBELIVABLE HOW FUN IT IS. Buy this game PIKMIN! by: Anonymous On: 2004-06-06 I cant wait until Pikmin 2 comes out! Ive beaten the original Pikmin game, so I know how fun it is. I wish it would come out sooner. >>>The only experience in the world<<< I am feeling very very postive for Pikmin2 after I bought this one several weeks ago in Japan and played since then. One of the most important but small changes is limit of days to finish all the tasks. There used to be 30 days limit, but as there is no limit on time(or days to finish) anymore, you can play this game in your way. In addition, new underground stages are adding new good aspects to this game. Main character name "Orima" must have come from "Mario". You can play with freinds as well. While I play Pikmin2, I can feel tastes and qualities that only Nintendo can develop but any others in the world cannot. I like to roam around in this beautiful and strange world and find out new items or just to increase many Pikmins. Recommended to anyone. To have credentials to tell something about videogames, you need to have Pikmin2 experience. Very Anticipated At E3 this year there were a lot of new games that caught everyones eye. However, probably one of the most amazing looking games that was on my list even before the event was, Pikmin 2. The original was very innovative, unique, and a lot of fun. This one plans to be even better than the others, because of all the new, additional concepts. Just a few examples include new Pikmin with interesting new abilities; such as greater strength, ability to survive in certain conditions, and greater agility. On top of that there will be different monsters, a different storyline, and even a 2 player mode. The two player mode looks a lot like the challenge mode from the original game. Anyway, it looks like a lot of fun, and is definetly the game to get come this fall. Very Anticipated At E3 this year there were a lot of new games that caught everyones eye. Do you like killing mutant infested evil enimies? Do you like gathering and collecting? well, nintendos got the game for you. The first Pikmin (also 5 stars) is probably the best ONE-PLAYER game on the Gamecube. But something bothered me. It was only a one-player. I couldnt play with my friends. BUT NOW I CAN! In Pikmin 2, there is not only a cooperative mode, (where we work together to kill the mutant infested evil enimies)but there is also an Arena mode. In this new mode we compete to get the most Pikmin by killing eachother and backstabbing eachother. Sounds like fun to me! Also, there are 2 new kinds of Pikmin. Not only are there the old: Red-Resist Fire, Do most damage But now, there are also 2 new pikmin So, in conclusion, ladies and gentleman, if you are a kid, this game rules becasue you get to kill those mutant infested evil enimies. If youre an adult, this game will actually make your child think (a little) and strategize, as well as problem solve, and critical think. Bottom Line: BUY THIS GAME [probably June 1st, but its gonna get delayed again, i just know it] BEST GAME IN THE WORLD Look, ladies and gentleman, do u like strategy? Get it now!!!! I first heard of this game after Christmas. I had 100 dollars to spend. I bought this, Enter The Matrix, Quidditch World Cup, and Super Smash Brothers Melee. I am NEVER off this game. Pros Cons pikmin strikes again!! number 1 one my must-have list!! i loved the first one,and the second one is no diffrent. pikmin2 fixes the few problems the original had and with some what new gameplay, with two new types of pikmin and the return of the other three and the no- time limit levels, yes , i have high hopes for this one!! bottom line: if you liked the first one, pikmin2 is a must have for next year! -mike I will love everything except... I love Pikmin. I beat the first one like 30 times and half of those in 9 days. i showed to my friends. 2 out of 3 liked but the outlier i didnt. think would because its not his type of game. Anyway, i know this game will be the best ever. it says it has a random dungeon generator. That is the coolest. Unlimited exploration that changes every tim you beat the game. I dont know how they could program that into a disc to make the gamecube randomly generate levels. Thats just so utterly impressing. i also like the new additions of purple and white pikmin. i think that will help and yet add a new twist to the game and sometimes be even more confusing than the first since you will have to balance out proportions of how many of each kinsd of pikmin to get when getting parts. I hope the levels are mostly like the forest naval. The distant spring was overdone and the(i do not mean too large) the forest of hope was just too homy and hilly green looking yet i liked all of them. i think the game will mostly look like forest naval though since all the screenshots look just like it and the description of it is that it is a dungeon which is where the dungeon generator comes in to play. I cant wait. I have enormous gratitude for nintendo for making this two player. A lot of people that dont like the game probably would if it was two player. i love this game already. The part i dont like is the elimination of the 30 day time limit. although it did make it harder than it already was i think it was a necessary addition to the game. it made you keep going and really made you think about what you had to do each day to get enough done. Although, as long as it keeps track of the day number in the game i shouldnt have a problem with it. I also kind of thought that the game was a little short. you would have to plan your days out to get it under 30 days and under 10 hours of gameplay, but if you dont it will take you awhile to get even one day over because you need atleast one part per day.I hope the new one is atleast a little bit longer. This will probably be the first game i will ever buy the day it comes out. PIKIMIN2 rullllles I LOVE PIKMIN 1 EXCEPT THE FACT THAT IT HAD a time limit it was so awesome when a friend told me about this i was so excited i went to nintendo.com and it was amazing the purple pikmin holding heavy things and albin able to go in poisinous gas this my friends is unbelivable if were all your parents i would know this is the ultimate pikmin game (well at least for now) but but all i gotta say is get that treasure because the piont is get treasure because olimars company has a 10,000 poko debt so you and your new assistant of friend (two player co-op) can kick some (bleeep) Expecting a top Pik! This game should be great, hoping for 5 stars. Game sequels, unlike movies, often do get better -- and in PIKMIN II the absence of a time limit, the ability to handle more pikmin with new abilities, and a helper to assist the shepherding your flowery ant-like virtual friends will make this game perhaps even better than the original. PIKMIN II holds great promise, with outstanding graphics and improved play. All ages will like it. If you havent tried it, get PIKMIN for christmas. The PIKMIN concept emphasizes teamwork, leadership, time management and is not about fighting, jumping and shooting. It is a refreshing turn from individual achievment and violence (like Mario or a shoot em up) to some really positive traits. If you like PIKMIN, you might like the Spyro games too, original in their own right. "Albino and Pudgey" by: Anonymous On: 2003-10-04 These are the new pikmin. The pudgey are purple they can pick up huge things but they slow running. Albino are white with red flowers on there head. They can handle poiseness gasses . This game is going to be incredible. Resereve your copy today. pikmin 2 ohhhhhhhhh yaaaaaaaaaaa. finaly its here. pikmin 2. the last one was time like 3-4 minutes. and this one is not. wich is really good becouse the last one sucked becouse of that stupied limit.you have a little helper. both of you can hold 100 each.hehehe.Im not going to tell everthing i know but,as you can see you have 2 new pikmin. i dont know what they do but it well be a surpies tete New and Better!!! The first Pikmin game was one of the best games I had ever bought. Being a Puzzle/Action game, it brought the challenge of getting to new heights, and the Suspense of taking on the enemy. Pikmin 2 should be even better! With a new assortment of Pikmin, their will be new puzzles to test the new pikmins powers, and co-op mode if the new puzzles are too tough alone! The game will also have no time limit. While the 30 day limit in the first game was annoying, I believe it completed the challenge in the game. I do not know if Pikmin will reach the standards of the first game, but I am putting it on my Christmas list! :) New and Better!!! The first Pikmin game was one of the best games I had ever bought. The new Pikmin and the two player ability should make this game awesome. The no time limit thing is an interesting addition, but it seems like in this game the urgency to get things done is gone, so you can take things easy. This is kind of a good thing and kind of a bad thing. nice Im really not a pikmin fan but i must say it was an excellently made game and 2 will be just as good if not better. nothing to new but a whole new story to keep fans excited. |
