Gamecube Wavebird Platinum     On: 2010-07-15

Best controller of all time. The buttons pressed completely natural. I have had mine for over 2 years now and its still in the same shape as when i got it. The c stick is accurately placed to give easy gameplay for smooth control. The back R and L handle well with a nice click sound when ever you press it. the Z stick is a little bit harder than the other buttons, but it doesnt get in the way when you play your games. A must for any platinum gamecube. I know i got one, did you?
Best Nintendo Wireless controller     On: 2010-06-03

Ive had this controller since it was first released in 2003, when I played the GameCube heavily. Since then I had bought an Xbox 360 and moved on to Halo, Modern Warfare etc etc. However, recently I decided to delve into Super Smash Brothers Brawl, since I was really into Super Smash Brothers Melee on the cube. I bought the game last week and dug around for the Wavebird. I found it with two AA batteries that I probably havent replaced in years. I pulled it out, blew off the dust and plugged it into the Wii. The little sucker turned right on, still feels solid and works perfectly. The analog sticks do not wiggle around and it as responsive as ever. BUY THIS CONTROLLER, it is the BEST wireless controller for the Wii hands down and will survive World War III.
best nintendo controller ever     On: 2010-02-28

I had a madcats controller for my Wii but for some reason it just wasnt working right. so I got on amazon and found the wavebird which I knew about and wanted since I used one when my nephew had a Gamecube. it might have been preowned but it looked and worked as if I bought it brand new and took it out of the box. if you have a Wii and are planning to get Gamecube games get this controller
Excellent     On: 2010-02-10

Ordered the Wireless Wavebird Controller for my daughter for Christmas. It was shipped fast and the controller is awesome... no more wires in front of the couch to trip over. Thanks for a great gift for my daughter!
Great Controller!     On: 2010-02-03

I bought this controller a few months after I bought my GameCube, about 4 years ago. This controller has worked great ever since! It is only now after years of abuse that it is starting to malfunction. So if you want a good, durable controller, this is well worth the money!
Say goodbye to the wire!     On: 2010-01-25

Its great not having to be tied down by wires.
After upgrading to a Wii, wireless is the only way to play.
Eventually, rechargeable batteries might be necessary.
Awsome Controller     On: 2010-01-10

Its perfect, not much else to say about it. No interference, no lag, fantastic distance and the batteries last a very, very long time.
The best dual analog wireless controller invented!     On: 2009-12-24

I purchased this controller new right before the Wii came out, at the time I had a Gamecube and knew I was going to wait in line at midnight for a Wii. Anyway all I have to say is that this is one of the best standard controllers I have ever used, I have had game systems from the Atari 7800 generation until now, and I have used wirless controllers for all 3 new consoles, but this is the best. Its sturdy with good analog stick tension and good button tactical feel. The wireless signal never fails and the batteries last for a long time, even when using rechargables, this controller is built to last and feels the same now as when I purchased it. If you have a Wii or gamecube get one of these! The only down side is that it does not have vibration feedback (rumble) and that you have to remember to flip the on/off switch after you get done using it or otherwise you will drain the bateries.
best wireless controller for cube     On: 2009-12-24

This is a flawless wireless controller fits perfect in users hand lil heavy but thats all good
Opens door for GC games on Wii     On: 2009-09-26

I bought this controller to allow me to operate Gamecube games on my Wii, and Ive not been disappointed.
I also had to buy a memory card, and so the top of the Wii is now open with the sender and the memory, but since it lives in a cupboard (hence the desire for wireless) that is no problem.
But it does seem like lots of people are buying GC games; the market is quite buoyant. But since a GC game is graphically similar to the Wii, it is only the control process that differs. And for Harry Potter games, this is perhaps simpler (so more effective but less challenging) with the GC than the Wii.
Great product from a good supplier for a niche market.
Great!     On: 2009-06-29

This is a great wireless controolert, it fits well with my hand as well as working to let me play my gamecube games.
Beyond Excellent     On: 2009-03-26

I got this to play Smash Bros. Brawl and Gamecube games on my Wii, and man does this thing work flawlessly. I have no complaints. The buttons are quality and are responsive, the battery life is fantastic, and Ive never experienced any noticeable lag.

Some people may complain about a lack of rumble, but that doesnt bother me.

If youre looking for a wireless Gamecube controller, I urge you to buy a Wavebird. You wont be disappointed.
Perfect, for last generation     On: 2009-01-06

Ive had the wireless Wavebird controller for nearly four years now and only once had a problem with it. The problem being that when the batteries are running low the game being played will respond as if the "C" stick is being spun around. A slight nuisance, yet also a helpful feature so I can tell when I need new batteries. Ive never encountered any interference from my 802.11g wireless connection or 2.4Ghz phones or Xbox 360 controllers.
Who would discontinue this?!     On: 2008-12-29

Nintendo released and discontinued the best wireless Gamecube controller on the market. Utilizing a 16 channel, 2.4GHz frequency, they can be used in a party room as each one may have its own channel. The 2.4GHz frequency allows for instant response to button pressing. It is great for any and every Gamecube games as well as some Wii games. It is not worth buying one new for nearly $100 - no controller is worth that. When it was new for $40, though, it was the best buy a Nintendo gamer could make. Now there are other non-Nintendo made wireless Gamecube controllers, but they arent the same shape and plainly just dont compare to the Nintendo Wavebird. If you can buy one of these new for up to $50, DO IT! If you are big into gaming, you owe it to yourself to buy one of these new at a good price and a 16-pack of AA batteries. I have had a Wavebird for at LEAST 5 years and the C-stick has finally given out. It will sometimes work during Brawl and sometimes it wont. I still use it for my other FPS and RTS and RPG games, though. Nintendo did something right by coming out with this. They need to right the wrong of discontinuing it.
Nothing beats a classic     On: 2008-12-16

The wavebird was sold by Nintendo when the GameCube came out. I guess at some point someone sued for copyright infringement (the wireless technology) and was forced to quit selling them. Thats why they are actually hard to find, especially new. I really like the feel of them because they actually felt like the `real Nintendo controllers. Sometimes when you buy a controller from another company they dont fit your hand the same way, the buttons are different sizes, etc.

Anyway I had ended up selling my GameCube and the controllers, long story short; I bought a Wii and need something to play the old N64 games with. The wavebirds work great with it. The only downside, though, (and this may just be me not have had played the N64 in a really long time) is that the joystick seems to be a little stiffer than I remember the N64 controllers being. Other than that the controllers work great at a distance and have a pretty good battery life.

I am happy with the ones I have purchased and would recommend them to anyone that wants the look and feel of a real Nintendo Controller, without having to be tethered to a console halfway across the room.

Why are they not making these anymore?     On: 2008-08-29

Bought a used one off of Amazon for Wii purposes - as most of you reading know by now, gamecube ports come standard with the Wii. This is an amazing controller, and probably the best for things like Super Smash. The range is amazing (I accidently took a game off pause changing the battery from a closet!) and I have yet to have interference. Good size and weight. Hopefully now that the Wii has a lot of users, many either playing games like Super Smash or the retro virtual console titles, they will put something siimilar on the market.
Best Nintendo Controller     On: 2008-08-27

Why did Nintendo ever take these out of production? As much as the Wiimotes are great, they can never fully replace the wavebird for games like Super Smash and Kart. It is durable, easy to use, simple, not too heavy and comfortable even after many hours of gaming.
handy, cool, compatible with wii, and surpisingly lightweight!     On: 2008-08-20

the nice thing about wireless, is that it takes less space, and tangles less with other wired controllers. The wavebird took it a step further and made sure the wireless worked perfectly! Its also great because you can use it to play gamecube, or virtual console games on the wii. Im glad i chose these intead of wired, purple controlers.
(the sparkleing silver is a nice touch too!)
Wavebird for my Wii     On: 2008-06-22

Great product, Nintendo made a stroke of genius when they allowed for game cube games and controllers to function flawlessly with the Wii. And crazy enough these controllers were awesome on the game cube, great reception and built tough (Ive dodged my share of these guys from angry roommates to wish that they had come with straps like the wii motes) and are just as great on the wii. The batteries last forever too. Overall Id highly recommend that anyone needing a good quality controller pick up some of these, unfortunately because they are so great they sell, used, for a premium. Cords just never seem to get out of the way and that is why I wanted these guys for my gamecube games, if you can live with cords then youll be able to pick up 2 or 3 corded ones to what youd pay for just one of these, so choose wisely. Unfortunately(?) quality always comes at a price.
Review for Wavebird     On: 2008-05-18

Introduction
****************
I remember when these controllers came out. I was an employee at Best Buy at the time and got employee discount on it hence making the controller cost $20 instead of $30. This controller is probably one of the best (if not the best) wireless controllers out. In 2003 most of the wireless controllers were based on IR but with new breakthroughs in integrated circuits, Nintendo based this controller on a RF.

Pros
*****
- Shares all the benefits of being a wireless controller (no tangled cords, etc)
- Definitely has excellent battery life for being a wireless controller
- Made with the same quality as a GameCube controller
- 16 RF channels enable the wireless controller to be used with numerous other WaveBird wireless controllers

Cons
*****
- No Rumble Feature (although that is a very very weak con considering the battery life makes up for it)

Conclusion
************
The WaveBird controller sells for retail $29.99. However, since the Wii gives the option to use the Wavebird for games and that Nintendo has discontinued the production of this product, prices for this controller have a range. This controller is definitely one that every Wii/GameCube owner should at least have one of these. Ive had mine since it came out in 2003 and its my favorite controller to use. I would recommend if you want it to last as long as possible is to buy either the Energizer ultimate lithium or the Duracell PowerPix AA batteries. They do cost more than the typical AA battery but the length of use you get out of the battery definitely makes it worth the price. Overall this Gamecube Controller definitely makes my Top 5 on best accessories by a console.

Personal Commentary (Optional Read)
***********************************
For people that say that the remote controls interfere with this controller obviously have no knowledge of what IR and RF are.

For the people that say that there is lag with the wireless controller, yes there is lag but its so small that the only time you will notice it is that if you are a competitive console gamer which accounts for <1% of the gamer population. By the way the lag is within <1 ms.

For the people that say that people can cheat by taking over your controller by being on your frequency, why are you even playing with them in the first place? If they dont play fair then they are not worth your time.

For the people that say the controller is too bulky, use it for about 2 straight, consecutive weeks and come back. Converting from a regular GameCube controller to a WaveBird does not take long at all; sure it is bulky at first but you adapt to it. By the way unless your thumbs are 3-4 inches long there is really no way to "accidentally" turn off the controller.

For the people that say that the buttons wear down over time, welcome to the world of "wear and tear". If you are planning to play a button mashing game, ie SSB, I would recommend to get a corded controller than a WaveBird. I am not saying that the WaveBird cant handle the button mashing, I am saying that its much more economical to button mash a $20 controller than a $30 controller.
NO WIRES!     On: 2008-04-01

Awesome to have a wireless item that works great and a must have for any nintendo system!
Wavebirds - the ONLY good wireless controller for Gamecube/Wii     On: 2008-03-31

The Good:
- Amazing range. No dropouts ever!
- 16 channels. Each is hard-coded so not dependent on auto-synchronization
- No problems with analog-controller drift
- OEM feel. Very solid, great construction.
- Batteries last a very, very long time.

The Bad:
- No rumble
- A little bulky (but balance is good so bulk isnt too bad)
- No extra features like turbo, macros etc.
- Pricey. (Come on Nintendo, start producing these again!!!)

After having tried other wireless controllers, the Wavebirds stand far and above all the rest. Other wireless controllers Ive tried have drop-outs, but not the Wavebirds. Note that Wavebirds use radio frequencies instead of infra-red like most (all?) the others. RF is much less subject to interference and the range is much better.

These are well made controllers that last. I bought 2 Wavebirds used. The analog stick on one of them is a little loose, but it doesnt affect play. Also, Ive never had problems with analog drift.

There are no extra features like rumble, turbo, macros etc - this is just a basic controller. However, "it just works" which is the main function. There has only been 1 game that Ive found (so far) in which rumble was really missed (and not just a gimmick add-on like usual). (This game is Mario Party 4 in which rumble helps on one of the mini-games).

After having purchased 2 non-Wavebirds, I regret buying them and would have saved up and paid for the Wavebirds. (However, now that the going price is up from $35/each to $55/each I dont know about that.) The Intec G5089s arent bad (especially for $20) as long as you maintain line-of-sight between the controller and console.

I cant figure out why Nintendo stopped production on these. This is the only really good wireless controller for the Gamecube/Wii.

Gamecube Wireless wavebird controller     On: 2008-03-31

I have bought a few of these gamecube wireless wavebirds for myself and my son and they can take a beating. They are pretty acurate conciding pressing the buttons to action in the game. The price is alittle bit more then i would like to pay being that gamesystems change now so often but through the beating and function this item does make it worth the while. Its a shame there arent different options with many other colors.
Almost Necessary     On: 2008-03-21

The wavebird is a must-buy if you plan on playing your gamecube from more than a few feet away. Ive gotten my wavebird to work as far as 30 away through a window, from my backyard into my living room. Its pretty efficient with batteries, and it actually weighs less than the wired controller (with batteries).

Its only major flaw is the lack of rumble, but for most games, youre not missing out on much. One of the smaller issues Ive had has been if you are rough with the wavebird, sometimes the battery fall off the connections and it will seem like the batteries are dead, even if theyre not. The channel system is a little frustrating as well, because if youre not careful you can switch channels during play.

worth getting, but maybe at a lower price.
Solid     On: 2008-03-17

Wonderful, solid product. Its good on batteries, but I think that might have a lot to do with the omission of rumble feedback. After playing with one for a year, I bought more.

Remote Control     On: 2008-02-13

I bought this for my grandson and he loves it and plays with it all the time.
Gamecube Wavebird     On: 2007-12-26

Great wireless controller for the Gamecube. Has great range. Plays just as good as original wired controllers with the freedom of no cords.
A great controller     On: 2007-10-04

Ive been using this controller for a while, with zero problems...and as long as I make sure I turn it off when Im done, the batteries last quite a while.

The only downsides, as I see it, is its a bit big, and theres no rumble...but, then, a rumble pack would likely run the batteries down too quickly.
Bought for the Wii     On: 2007-07-02

After downloading "The Legend of Zelda" off the Wii shop, I found gameplay with the wavebird to be the perferred gameing option. Good battery life (great compared to the Wii Remotes) and 99% consistant connection lets me play from a comfortable distance from my TV. I bought another one (in platnum) for head-to-head Mario Kart battles!

Wavebird my 50th Review!     On: 2007-06-27

Well, this is my 50th review on Amazon. I saved this review for a special something called the Wavebird Wireless controller for the Nintendo cube.

This is by far my favorite controller, even now with such greats as the SixAxis and the Wii-mote, I still love the ol Wavebird.

This device is well manufactured, its almost indestructible. The 2.4 gHz technology is fantastic even today, having played with this controller almost exclusively for over four years it has never had a hiccup or any other sync issues.

The Gamecube controller is probably the best of any generation of game controllers, I love it for the different shapes of the buttons. In a pinch I always know which button Im pressing, the Wii-mote is the next best thing, but for hard-core gaming its not my favorite of favorites. The competition controllers all use plain old round buttons that I always seem to hit the wrong button on when its important.

The battery life on this device is quite impressive. Believe it or not in four years of gameplay Ive only changed the batteries two to three times.

The only complaint that most have about this controller is the lack of forced-feedback (tremor or rumble). To tell you the truth, Ive never liked that feature anyway, but many do. I think that the omission of that feature is the reason for the unbelievable battery life and for me I would much rather have the extended battery life. But, perhaps the big "N" should have made a tremor pack available for it for those who wish to have the feedback.

Several key technical features make this controller superior to many of the competition:

Two position R1 and R2 buttons allow you to zoom in on a target 50% or 100% if playing a shooter.
Different shaped buttons lend themselves to better accuracy.
Camera stick and Control stick dont "Click in" a feature that often times results in mistakes (at least for me).
Simple key layout is easy to use and understand.
Controller fits comfortably in your hands.

All in all, this is a great controller. If you look at the competition (MS and Sony), they have both incorporated wireless controllers into their new game machines. I think the big "N" lead the way in this innovative field with a great controller called the "Wavebird Wireless"

Highly recommended!
Wavebird!!!     On: 2007-02-16

Ok my dad bought a wavebird about a month ago its awesome!!!!!! I can go anywhere in the room and play it! The only tacky part is you have to remember to turn it of once your done playing. We also bought a second one 2 weeks later. Go Wavebirds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More than well worth it.     On: 2007-01-18

Ive had this controller for a while now and I have to say its amazing. I have a lot of wireless devices and nothing interferes with it and its just overall the best wireless controller on the market for any system. Hands Down.
Gamecube Wavebird Wireless Controller Platinum     On: 2007-01-17

MY DAUGHTER LOVES IT! THE IDEA OF PLAYING HER GAMECUBE WITHOUT WIRES ENHANCES THE GAMES SHE PLAYS.
wavebird     On: 2007-01-16

the control works fine, but the locations of the buttons are not really good -- too close together.
Good controller     On: 2007-01-16

I bought this so I could keep my gamecube behind a glass door. It works great (as long as you dont accidently move the channel dial on the controller during play). Works just like a standard contoller sans rumble. Glad I bought it.
Awesome controllers     On: 2007-01-15

The wireless controllers make playing GameCube games even more fun without all the mess. You are not tied to the GameCube - you can sit wherever you want. The only thing is that it does not rumble like the one with the cords. Otherwise, they are GREAT. My daughter plays her GameCube games on her WII using the wireless controllers. It is so nice not to have cords all over the game room.
All Gamecube Owners Need This!     On: 2007-01-12

I absolutely love the wavebird wireless control for Gamecude. Youre no longer confined to the 4 foot cord of the controller! I can now sit in the confort of my recliner or on the sofa and play my games, both of which are at least 19 feet from my big screen! For older guys like me - its one of the best investments Ive made.
No more cables. Yeah!     On: 2007-01-11

Wavebird wireless controller is the way to go. Works just as good as wired and is just as easy to set up. Would recommend to anyone tired of tripping over cables. Well worth the investment.
I love it.     On: 2007-01-10

I bought this for my son. He loves it. It is perfect for playing game.
Wonderful     On: 2007-01-09

I bought it for my daughter and now I use it when I play Medal of Honor. Its terrific, amazing. Easy to install and has a great range. You wont be disappointed!

Happy with the Wave Bird     On: 2007-01-09

I bought this for my husband, and myself for Christmas, so we both could enjoy the games... we already had one identical to this, Amazon just had the best price.
Better than expected     On: 2007-01-09

This controller is a lot better than I expected. Having had a PS2 for a couple years and being ripped off by low quality controllers, this Wavebird was best overall for the money.
Works great, great for younger kids     On: 2007-01-08

Bought this item because I was tired of my son accidently pulling his game system off the top of his dresser while playing. Of course you have to be sure and turn it off after use to avoid running down the batteries. Good product, wish it had a charger, maybe Nintendo will think of that next.
Wireless freedom, now on Gamecube...     On: 2007-01-07

It used to be that wireless controllers really, really sucked (you know, back in the infrared days). Response time seemed slow, disconnects were frequent, and most products were poorly constructed. Thats not the case now, with RF-based wireless controllers, and the Wavebird is one of the best of the bunch (and the best for the Gamecube). Theres not really that much to elaborate on, other than the fact that the Wavebird just works, as well as a wired-controller does. Just plug the Wavebird receiver into your faithful Cube and youre ready. Thanks to the RF technology, your controller works on the other side of the room and does it through furniture, heads and other such obstacles. If youre looking for wireless on the Cube, you wont do better than this, and as an added bonus, know that its also compatible with Nintendos new Wii system (for playing your Gamecube games or select Wii titles, such as the upcoming Super Smash Bros. sequel).
Must have for the Wii     On: 2007-01-07

So you bought a Wii and want to know what else you can buy? Here is what you need:

The Wavebird wireless controllers are a must have accessory if you own a Wii and plan to play Game Cube games or download the virtual games from the Wii shopping channel. You can use up to 4 wavebirds. Dont forget to add the 251 memory card if you plan on saving your Game Cube games and you also need an SD memory card if you want to save your Wii games. Also, I havent tried but am buying the component video cable for the Wii and my High Definition TV. 480p isnt exactly High Definition Ive read but it is better than 480i which is standard RCA video for the Wii. Also, if you dont have a wireless network in your home but do have high speed internet, do yourself a favor and buy a wireless router. Wii has built in wireless internet connectivity.

Its all about the Wireless!!!
Works on Wii without problems     On: 2007-01-05

I got this controller for my Wii, first I thought it was too bulky but after playing some VC games like Mario N64 and Sonic, I knew that I made the right choice. My 3 year old kid uses it without any problems.
The wireless feature is awesome, no cables on the way, if you need to have a clean room while no playing you just put it besides the Wiimote and the Nunchuck.

Wavebird Wireless     On: 2007-01-03

Not a game, the controller, works super well, batteries seem to have a great life, havent died yet.
wireless controller sucks     On: 2006-12-17

it has a stupid on/off button in the middle, which you keep accidentally hitting when playing. it turns it off, and then you die. its the most idiotic design, why the @*(&@ didnt they put the on/off button somewhere on the back of the stupid thing or something.

and it doesnt rumble either.

Nice layout, a little too big.     On: 2006-12-13

This controller works very well from the wireless standpoint. I have large hands and yet I did find that the controller was a little on the big side. It can become uncomfortable when playing for long periods of time. However, since it is wireless I will overlook the size in favor of the wireless convenience, especially since Im using it with my Wii and I shudder at the image of the Wii flying off the top of the entertainment center when someone gets a little overzealous.
Controller     On: 2006-12-13

This controller is a godsend. I was a little dissapointed about the absence of the runmble feature, but thats ok becuase Im not having family members tripping over my cord and unplugging it. Good trade off.

And the battery life is awesome. You dont really have to worry about it for a while. Just dont leave it on. Thats a little hard to get used to.

And for everyone who is concerned about the color thing. Silver goes with all 3 colors, so dont worry about it. It looks awesome with my black gamecube.
Important for Nintendo fans!     On: 2006-11-05

With the Wii right around the corner, people are rushing to get one. Some preordered it while some others (including me) are camping out for it. But some worry about how old school is fitting into the next-gen world of gaming and its completely wireless interaction. Sure, sideways Wii controllers are S/NES controllers, but what of gamecubes? I am happy to say that I have gotten a chance to play around with the Wii before anyone else. And yes, the wavebird Receiptor will fit flawlessly under the gamecube controller flap on the Wii. It looks pefectly at home there. Rejoice gamers! Pick up your wavebirds and play on.
Wow!     On: 2006-08-19

I had this controller for almost 3 years and i have only had to change thge batteries once, and i play it a lot, it works completely great, i would recommend this to anybody with a gamecube.
Excellent, High-Quality, no lagging!     On: 2006-07-09

The bottom of the controller sticks out quite a bit, but this does not affect gameplay and other than that it is the same size as the regular gamecube controller. Simply fantastic (unless youre one of those people that just NEED to have rumble for some reason).

But one slight problem: Is it just me, or do the trigger buttons occasionally fail? For example, in Resident Evil 4, Ill be holding the R button to aim, but it will quickly go back and forth from normal view, as if the button cancels out. However, this is rare, and maybe its just me.

Once again, an excellent high-quality controller!
The future for Video games has come... and it is called, "Wavebird"     On: 2006-06-27

This thing is awesome! Its cooler then the regular gray wavebird, and its a WHOLE lot cooler then the regular wired controller. Oh yeah, the fruit loops you said "it interfiers with my T.V. remote THERE A DIFFERENC E BETWEEN I.R. WHICH IS IN YOUR T.V. REMOTE AND REQUIRES A LINE OF SIGHT ADN A RADIO FREQUENCY, WHICH IS IN YOUR RADIO, AND YOUR WAVEBIRD. ANYONE HOME?????

Pros.

-Wireless

-your are able to sit farther from the TV, thus avoiding Burning out your eyes and being able to ACTUALLY sit on your couch

-controller fits nicely in your hands, and the bottons are easy to memorize (unlike the OVERSIZED Xbox controller)

Cons

-may, interfere with your telephone, if your using an old wireless.

-More expensive ( BUT REALLY WORTH THE VALUE!!)

-Have to buy batteries. However, you can get around this by buying rechargable double AAs and 2 Double AAs last 100 HOURS!!

-None other then the ones listed above.

As I said earlier, the Future for video games has come and its called "Wavebird"...

Get this!

Awesome     On: 2006-06-03

the wavebird can really take a beating. there are 2 dogs in my house that drool all over them and two infants that pick them up and throw them and they still work fine. plus the game that ip[lay all the time is Super Smash Bros. Melee and the controller is still fine after all the button mashing. I also have a wireless xbox controller and there is one feature that reely helps that i wish was on the wavebird. After 10 min of no use my xbox controller automatically shuts its self off which saves the battery. its too bad the wavebird doesnt have this. but overall its a great controller
Not without its flaws.     On: 2006-04-26

Nintendos biggest problem is that it has NEVER been able to construct quality controllers. Who remembers the N64 grit-filled analogs which would ruin in a few months? Well the Gamecube controllers have similar problems. They do not get gritty, however they do become non-responsive over time and with excessive use. I have two brothers, and we all play games a LOT, and on the gamecube, we play Super Smash Brothers Melee, which can strain and wear out ANY controller, and in my opinion, the Wavebird is not nearly as resilient to analog-ailments as the standard ones.

Granted, it is very convenient to have a wireless controller, not having to worry about people (or dogs) passing in front of the TV and pulling out your chord. The battery life is very good, and it feels identical to the standard controller, so there is no issue over that. But, we have had our Gamecube and two standard controllers for 5 years, and our wavebird for around 2 or 3. Our standard controllers have just now worn out to where we need to completely replace them (Though I use worn out loosely. We just tolerated their flaws until now.) And the wavebird has also just worn out, though you can see the significant time it took.

I guess I just expect the controllers to last near-forever, like the XBox. But in my eyes, its not nearly as durable as the standard controllers, and the trade in for wireless for the rumble feature just doesnt cut it for me.

So if you usually game alone, and play less intense games like Zelda or.. Tetris (Rofl.) this would be great. But if you play more hardcore games like Metroid or SSBM, I would not reccomend this controller. Get the standard ones, and deal with the chord.

Heres hoping the Revolution controllers wont be intolerable after a year of gameplay.
great controller looks and feels great     On: 2006-04-18

This is a very awesome controller. It looks great and its wireless! i have not had any problems. I can lay on my couch 10 feet away and play without having to worry about accidently unplugging the controller because the cord is too short. This controller is way better than the wired controller it comes with. I recommend this controller to anyone who owns a gamecube. I bought it at gamestop for 17 dollars used! great deal. Buy it now.
These are GREAT!     On: 2006-04-05

No wires! For us, the range has not been a problem and they work just like a normal controller. The ONLY drawback is that the kids leave them turned on and the batteries need replaced. :( As long as you dont use the rumble option, the batteries seem to last a long time.
Great controller     On: 2006-02-26

Weve been using this controller for two weeks with no problems. Theres no noticable delay, and the batteries are still fresh.

NIntendo products are as reliable as ever! I was very pleased at both the range and the battery life of the wavebird and realized how little vibration matters! I would highly recommend this over any other wireless controller!
GREAT CONTROLLER     On: 2006-01-30

THIS IS PROBABLY THE ONE BEST GAMECUBE ACESSORY I HAVE EVER PURCHASED! IT WORKS PERFECTLY AND ALL THE BUTTONS ARE DURABLE SO IF YOU PLAY A LOT YOU WONT WEAR THEM DOWN. THE CONTROLLER IS A PERFECT ADDITION TO THE PLATINUM GAMECUBE, CONSIDERING IT IS THE SAME COLOR. THE ONLY THING THAT IS A SMALL PROBLEM WITH IT IS THAT MY CONTROLLER HAS THE JOYSTICK POP OUT AFTER A WHILE. DONT WORRY THOUGH, AS YOU CAN GET A NEW ONE AT A LOCAL GAME RETAILER. I ALSO DONT LIKE THAT NINTENDO GOT RID OF THE RUMBLE FEATURE ON THIS ONE, BUT EITHER WAY IS FINE. I JUST WISH THAT THEY MADE THE CONTROLLER HAVE AN AUTOMATIC ON/OFF LIKE THE LOGITECH. OTHERWISE THIS IS DEFINITLY THE BEST GAMECUBE CONTROLLER THAT YOU WILL EVER PLAY WITH IN YOUR LIFE!!!
Thank you WaveBird     On: 2006-01-26

I used to be a serious gamer back when I was a kid, considering my last system I bought was Nintendo NES (which I still own and use). Just recently I bought a Nintendo Gamecube off of a co-worker of mine. He only had one controller, which is a hideous neon orange, and I needed two for me and my partner. I was hesitant on buying the WaveBird only because of the lack of knowledge I have when it comes to Gamecube, and $35 for a controller seemed a little far fetched, at least for me not knowing the cost of recent games/controllers, but I gave in. Definately a well-worth-it-expense. I enjoy playing Gamecube from the comfort of my own bed without the hassle of getting tied up in cord.
10 times better then that short cord controler!     On: 2006-01-14

this controler is a lot better then the one that comes with the game cube for one you can store it better when theres no cord making it EZer to store and plus you can go farther back with the controller ive said the good things and now ill tell you the bad stuff theres no rumble mode and theres the fact that if you leave the controller on it will waste the batteries but youll get used to it and i think rumble mode is INOYING!!! and ive never had any troble controlling it unless youre incredibley far away from the T.V! If youve got a game cube I really recomomd this!

From a mom's perspective...     On: 2005-11-22

Weve had this controller for almost 2 years now. I bought it because my son got close to yanking the whole game system off of his dresser a few times. I was a little skeptical as to whether it would REALLY work. Well, it does, even 2 years later. Weve even had a dog chew on it and it still works. Now my son sits on his bed 12 feet away and can play, no longer tethered to the system. We (I) love this controller.

Ive used it for racing games like Burnout and Need for Speed, and sports games like Madden 2005 and NBA Street, and others like Mario and Animal Crossing. It seems to work fine for me - but Im no pro gamer either, so take that for what its worth.

I like the durability, reliability, and ease of this product. It was more than worth the money.
Cool wireless     On: 2005-10-26

I cant say enough good things about this controller. Not only does it eliminate the tangle in front of your GameCube, the controller itself is not much heavier than a standard controller and has excellent battery life. Throw a couple of NiMH batteries in there and youre good to go - Ive only had to recharge them two or three times, and Ive had them in there for years.
If you absolutely need rumble support for a game, though, keep a wired controller on standby. Really, its not that big a detriment.

The Gamecube Wavebird Controller worked great. I have no regrets of buying it!
Has its pros and cons...     On: 2005-08-30

Pros:

No cord to trip over,

Can control games from a greater distance,

Easier to store than regular wired controller.

Cons:

Does not include a rumble feature (which is actually okay with me, as I find the rumble to be distracting, but just to let you know),

May cause interference with other wireless devices,

Sometimes reciever does not receive your signal, thus disrupting gameplay.

Overall, I find the Wavebird Wireless Controller to be very convenient to use, but sometimes I prefer the smoother game control of a regular wired controller.
Perfect enough     On: 2005-08-25

I am a long-time Playstation owner, who recently gave in and bought a GameCube system for my Pokemon-obsessed son. We decided that since the GameCube has excellent 4 player titles, we would bite the bullet and buy 4 WaveBird controllers and focus on the multiplayer titles only. This has been an excellent move. I have them setup on channels 1-6-11-16 and they all play well together. I have big hands and I like the feel of the controller and I like the heft of it. It has a definite feel of quality and I like the way the sticks and buttons are setup on the WaveBird. To address previous reviewers issues, we have 2.4 GHz phones and WiFi and have not seen any interference issues. The previous reviewer who was having issues with interference with his remote is likely the exception to the rule, since most people do not have RF remotes, but the standard infrared variety. We have been using the controllers for about 2 weeks now without a glitch and I anticipate they will stand the test of time. My biggest rave for these controllers is the ease in which they can be pulled out of the storage bin and then put back away, when we are done with them. Oh yeah, and its nice to have my floor back (e.g. not having to worry about tripping over cables when crossing it). The reason that I called this review "perfect enough" is that the main (and really only) complaint from some reviewers is that there is no rumble feature. I say to those who want the rumble feature when playing, simply revert to your corded controller for that particular game! The system comes with one so use it! Id rather have the extended battery life and the rumble feature in a lot of games ends up being more of an annoyance than a help.
=D=D=D=D GREAT CONTROLLER!     On: 2005-08-04

This is the best controller, i can play it very far away. The controller is very durable, My mom and dad sit on it alot and i drop it from a very high couch, and it never breaks! I really love this controller ive always wanted a cordless one.

As a mom...     On: 2005-07-18

As a mom with a 1 year old, a 5 year old and a husband who might as well be 15, this is a great controller. I do suggest investing in some rechargable batteries with a small charger. Worth it in the long run for the intial expense. We have 2, and they get dropped, slobbered on. They do get lost though if you dont enforce keeping them in one location
Nothing to choke your opponent with, but...     On: 2005-06-09

my friends are huge gamerz, often our "parties" center around Spartan thrashing, zombie splattering, demon blasting or mushroom kingdom throw-downs... yeah were real grown up. Now that there is an 11 month year old kid in the mix it is SO SWEET to not have a cord for him to pull out of the cube at the WORST POSSIBLE MOMENT or to be able to quickly flip the switch off when he suddenly decides to indulge in a little button-mashing. THANK GOD FOR CORDLESS.
tv remote control interference? please....     On: 2005-04-01

the guy who says "when it interacts with other wireless producs like remote controls for the television. It sometimes gets caught up when somebody changes the channel toward a similar beam of radio waves" is either dumb or pulling some legs... remote controls for tvs use INFRARED which requires line of sight while the wavebird uses RADIO FREQUENCIES, which do not. there is no way IR and RF can influence each other. he probably ran low on batteries...
Excellent - if you can live without the vibration     On: 2005-03-25

WaveBird is a very handy piece of controller. It responds very well, you wont notice any difference with the normal Nintendo controller. Some might say it weights more, but you will probably not notice the difference in weight between the WaveBird and the regular corded controller. The only real drawback is the absence of vibration. If you think you can do without it, WaveBird is perfect.

Very good     On: 2005-02-24

I am a hardcore gamer. I have had many systems, and gamecube is my favorite. But I have tried wireless controllers for Sega Saturn, Playstation, and Playstation 2. None work as well as the Wavebird for Gamecube.

Durability- 10/10 The durability of this thing is awesome. I have extremely large dogs (an English Mastiff and a Chocolate Lab) and they have stepped on, slobbered on, and knocked this thing off of a four foot table, but this thing works fine!!! It has taken quite a beating.

Precision- 10/10 The precision is just as good as a first party controller. Since the Wavebird is from Nintendo, Im not suprised. I have bought (along with the Wavebird) Resident Evil 4, where bad aim is your downfall. The controller hasnt failed me yet.

Battery Life- 10/10 This pad lasts 100 hours on a single charge (2 AA batteries included). To preserve battery life, Nintendo took the Rumble feature off. You wont notice its gone, and if you do, you need a more exciting game.

Price- 7/10 The controller is THIRTY dollars. Thats expensive. I bought this thing new at a local GameXchange, and I was suprised by how much it cost. But if you have large dogs or small children in your house, then it is worth it.

This controller is excellent, and Nintendo made it well. But if you dont live in an enviroment where spending $30 for a wireless controller makes life easier, I recommend buying an extension cable.
THE BEST CONTROLLER EVER!!     On: 2005-02-13

This Controller is the greatest thing ever invented. The product says that you can use it 20 feet away but when I tried it, I could move it from the other side of the house. This thing is awesome. I worship it. (In a healthy way) If you dont have one already, drop whatever youre doing and buy one. You wont regret it. THANK YOU SO MUCH NINTENDO. GO WAVEBIRD!!
Are you joking?     On: 2005-02-11

Are you kidding me? First off, if youre playing gamecube you should be sitting in a CHAIR IN FRONT OF YOUR TV. If you are somewhere else, you prolly should be taking a break from frying your brain.
Wavebird...what kind of a STUPID name is Wavebird? Give me a chill pill, because I think Im reading things wrong. Nintendo wouldnt go low enough as to name a controller "Wavebird"!
I mean it looks ridiculous! That thing is huge! You have to be stupid to buy something like that! My big, grey, classic gameboy is cooler than that thing. It also costs more than a standard controller, not to mention you have to buy BATTERIES for it!!
Come on, the GameCube controller has a wire as long as a fruitloop. Its not like youre going to be playing while you make dinner anyway...
Nintendo was basically telling you to give them their money when they put this on the market. Costs more, looks ridiculous, takes batteries, and is completely unnecessary, you hear me? U-n-n-e-c-e-s-s-a-r-y. [...]

Good day to you, readers, and I wish you the best of health...

Health? Gamecube? Those things dont fit together for some reason....

Bottom Line, CONSIDER what you are considering. It might blow up your gamecube when you plug it in.

Im not 13 either...but I wouldnt have you think that I was my mom...

Bottom Line #2, If you have a moderate amount of intelligence, you will NOT purchase this block.
Great Controller     On: 2005-02-06

This is slightly bigger than the regular controllers but its not a big deal. We use a big screen and play about 10-15 feet away from the TV. The wirless is so great because you dont have to move the GameCube from the shelf and mess with all the cords. There is no lag in response time either. Such a great controlller. We tried to see how far away we could be when the GameCube would stop receiveing signal. We got to the opposite side of the house and it was still working. Ha!!
The best controller E-V-E-R!!!     On: 2005-01-12

Nintendo has the best controllers. Xbox and Playstation havent been able to meet them. They are so ergonomically comfortable is almost impossible to believe. Now, these ones are wireless and they work awesomely! You will never have problems with them losing signal, they rock.
WaveBird=Wave of the future     On: 2005-01-08

This is the first wireless control to knock sucks off. I cant see why anybody would have any sort of problems with this wonderful controller. Its very responsive and it never fails in signal. I love this controller so much that I usually end up buying a game on the GameCube (if available) simply because I can play with the Wavebird. The signal of this controller goes through walls, I dont know why youd wanna play from another room, but you could if thats your thing. I usually play under the covers where its nice and warm, about 10 feet away from my GC and I have no problems. Get it, you wont regret it!

Works great, but where's the rumble?     On: 2004-12-30

I love it, but when I use it, I start to miss the rumble feature thats on the regular corded controllers. Oh well, I can play from 30 feet away.
Wireless Controller Pros definately outweigh Cons     On: 2004-12-29

My Aunt recently went out and bought two of these controllers to match her new Platinum Gamecube. They go with it beautifully and the range is great. No one wants to be sitting on the floor tethered to the Gamecube by a cord, and plus there is the risk of the tangle. Cords always get tangled.
The battery life seems to be pretty standard, not much to complain about, but you have to remember to switch them off. If you have ever forgotten, you know that it drains the batteries quickly.
The buttons have never frozen up on me, like some people have experienced.
Some things to watch out for are:
1. The Frequency Wheel changes numbers. This can result in your controller not working.
2. More than one controller has the same number.Make sure the numbers are different on the controllers to ensure proper working conditions.
3.Always remember to turn off the controller!!This is possibly the most important! Save your money by not wasting batteries! This is a good product, and I whole-heartedly reccomend it!
Not Much Wireless Without The Rumble     On: 2004-12-27

Nintendo really has put so much in the works with the triumph of their Gamecube video game system. Yet, they definitely brought so many wonderful kinds of add-ons to this great system. Unfortunately, when I heard so much hype about their wireless controller, I felt a little bit stoned. The Wavebird controller for the Nintendo Gamecube fairs as a very accurate controller through many different channels. However, there are a couple of downsides to owning a wavebird. One of them is that you lose the vibration feel that the corded version has in itself by Nintendo. That remains unfortunate. Another downside is that sometimes, your controller doesnt work very well, when you have another remote beam in the middle of the way from a different device like the VCR, or television. All in all, I honestly suggest you buy the Wired version of the Gamecube controller, if you want a better time with the games you play.
Simply the best Wireless controller     On: 2004-12-23

Any problem that people have mentioned is far less a problem then all other wireless controllers. I have had a wavebird for well over a year now, and it works flawlessly. I havent had one problem. Yes, some may have small issues, but that is what comes along with wireless. These SMALL problems do not hinder your game playing experience at all. (ex. Batteries need to be replaced. Anything that uses a battery will eventually need to have it replaced. So complaining about the battery says nothing about the controller.) Yes it is heavier that a corded controller. But thats not too big a deal. Its a great controller. Not perfect, but the best thats out there.

I went out of my room with the controller and my friend was inside playing, and i pressed a button and it worked! The door was closed too! I think this controller is great and you should get it for the holidays!

THANKS, NINTENDO!     On: 2004-12-05

Anyone who doubts the technology in these controllers, please dont fool yourself. The responsiveness is absolutely perfect, you will notice absolutely no difference between the Wavebird and the wired controller that comes with the Gamecube console. It will work through any household object that may be between you and the console, such as a dresser, bed, or chair. There is no need to worry about your commands reaching the console. There are also sixteen channels, so you usually dont even need to change the channel when playing with friends, and if you do, there is no interference between the channels. As for the battery life, it is very, very good, and totally worth the amazing freedom the wireless function affords you. It even comes with batteries! Nintendo really did think of everything. I would greatly encourage anyone looking at purchasing additional wired controllers to go with the Wavebird instead, you will be so happy you did. No more crossing wires! Unless you absolutely need to have the rumble function (and believe me, I like the rumble, too, but you wont miss it), treat yourself and everyone who uses your console to the Wavebird! And if youre giving a cube as a gift, make sure you get them a Wavebird, too. Now, if only Sony and Microsoft with take the hint... Consumers want a solid wireless controller!

i dont have the platimun wave bird i have the white one ive had it for a while. its great for people who are desprate for space to play or have pets, but its not very reliable. its heavier and has 12 frequencies, people can cheat and screw you up by switching to your frequency. also ive noticed it tends to break down alot for me, the preblem i have alot is the b button gets broken. however, once in a while it unjams for a few weeks sometimes even a month or two, but just keeps breaking. also it needs batteries and people have a tendency to leave it on out of habit. if you ABSOLUTLEY MUST have this, go right ahead, its not too bad, but i youre unsure, stay away and pick up a few extension cords.
Perfect for gaming parents!     On: 2004-11-29

The Wavebird controller is absolutely perfect for gaming moms and dads. Before this product came out, our gaming was relegated to our toddlers nap times and night time. Now we can play with the kids in the room with no fear of cord entanglement or the ever-popular power button push. We have had zero problems with radio interference, and I dont miss the rumble. Great product!
great!!!!!!!!!!     On: 2004-11-27

This controller is absolutely incrdible. You can be on the other side of a room and still play. The controller doesnt have to be directly pointed towards the receiver, so that gives you more freedom. The design is comfortable, though its bigger than the wired gamecube controller, but if it were the same size: where would you put the batteries? I highly recomend it, but if you dont have a platinum gamecube, better get the gray one, it looks a lot better.
Only Downside Is No Rumble Feature     On: 2004-11-16

I was having a hard time with the controller that came with my gamecube. I mean, it didnt even reach my couch! Well, I bought an extension cord which are pretty cheap online and it came in a set of 2 and the first one broke and when it was connected all of a sudden I had about 12 feet of cord and it was a mess. Anybody who owns a platinum GameCube knows that you will not find extra controllers anywhere, which pretty much forces you to buy a color that doesnt match your system or to buy a WaveBird...which I ultimatley did. Its exactly the same as the original controller, although it feels a bit lighter. The built in rumble feature has been replaced with a place for batteries, and of course there is no cord. It is a shame that the rumble feature had to be dropped, but it makes sense. It would have eaten the battery much more quickly. The controller gets plenty of battery life out of 2 AA batteries which is a major plus!
Best. Wireless. Ever.     On: 2004-10-28

This might be the first wireless controller that truly delivers in the history of gaming, and it took a first-party commitment to accomplish the feat. From its excellent battery life, its durability and utilitarian design, to Nintendos improved wireless technology, the bird stands tall amongst the best next-gen controllers (rivaling Sonys Dual Shock 2 and Microsofts S-controller). The added bulk of the battery casing on the bottom controller is the only difference between the Wavebird and the standard GC controller. For this level of quality, the price is far from exorbitant. Considering the inadequate length of the standard controllers cords, any room larger than a den will benefit from the Wavebird.

The Wavebirds quality is such that it should be a GC pack-in. A must-have for the GC gamer, casual or hardcore.
Great Controller, But Missing the Rumble Function     On: 2004-10-13

If you own a GameCube, I hope you enjoy the ergonomic design of the controllers as much as I do. When Nintendo announced it was releasing a first party wireless controller I was very excited. This controller doesnt disappoint, with the same button and stick layouts as the wired first-party controllers.

You choose a frequency to use (by rotating a numbered dial on both the controller and the receiver that plugs into the controller port on the Cube), which allows you to use up to 4 Wavebirds at a time (should an aggressive Super Smash Bros Melee match be in your future).

The controller also has an on/off switch, which allows you to shut it off and save extra battery life, which is a nice touch. I also appreciate the red light on the receiver, which lights up when it receives the signal from the Wavebird (making it very easy to tell if you are in range).

The only complaint that I have is one that Nintendo has addressed, namely the lack of Rumble functionality. To paraphrase Nintendo, to add the rumble feature would have greatly shortened the battery life of the controller. For many games, the lack of rumble feature isnt an issue, and the WaveBird works perfectly. For those games that rumble is a major part of, I just use an extension cable for my wired controller. ;)

Great Accessory     On: 2004-10-08

Playing video games has never been more enjoyable than with the WaveBird wireless controller. You can sit anywhere in the room, and in any position and the controller works flawlessly. Also, as a long-time videogame player, Ive had to struggle with the old cord-dangling-in-front-of-the-screen problem, but with the WaveBird you can even put your GameCube on top of the TV instead of having to pull it closer to you or off of the TV to accomodate the unusually short cord on the standard controller. True, there is no rumble feature on the WaveBird, but it is still lightweight and durable (Ive dropped mine a couple of times with no damage) and a great accessory to add to your GameCube library.
A must for anyone     On: 2004-08-10

This is byfar the best wireless controller I have seen out there, not only is it cheap ($35=25 for a wireless is very good) but the batteries last, I have had mine since the day it was released and i only changed the batteries once and it was recently, and I also play my GCN a lot.
A must for Gamecube owners     On: 2004-07-27

First, and foremost, this is the best constructed wireless controller youll find. The WaveBird is actually produced by Nintendo, as opposed to the other next-generation wireless controllers, which are constructed by an off-brand company. I have yet to have any type of problem with either of mine.

Like previous reviews have stated, it is easy to forget to turn the controller on and panic when it doesnt work. That aside, I am more pleased with the WaveBird than I have been with every other after-market controller I have ever used, combined. And working at a video game store, Ive tried them all.
Wireless Whirled Out     On: 2004-07-15

I just try to look at the best kinds of controllers for my video game systems time & time again. It just isnt a big deal, unless you need a extra one for company. For Nintendo, they have made some great controllers, and accessories for the Nintendo Gamecube, but this isnt really one of them. The Wavebird controller, does operate fairly well, but there are some flipsides to this wireless controller that outweigh the handling of the wired controllers for the Nintendo Gamecube. I was a bit dissapointed in the handling. It was a lot bulkier than its wired brother, which is highly featured with the Gamecube. Another disadvantage is that it has some problems when it interacts with other wireless producs like remote controls for the television. It sometimes gets caught up when somebody changes the channel toward a similar beam of radio waves, then it isnt as active to the commands you give the controller. Nevertheless, this is for die hard Gamecube owners, and not traditional owners like myself, whore so used to the wired Gamecube controllers. Get those regular Nintendo gamecube wired controllers, instead of this pricey controller.
Must have for Gaming parents!!     On: 2004-06-17

My husband and I are total gamers. However it got a little difficult after our son was born. As a crawler and toddler, he was constantly tripping on the cord and hurting himself, or disconnecting us from our game! Eek!

The WaveBird frees up our living room from cords. It is a lot safer now. Now we just have to worry about his head getting in our view, but he shouldnt be that close to the t.v. anyway.

The controler is the same size and simular weight to the corded versions for the Cube. Its comfortable in my hands, and I havent gotten "gamers thumb" yet after three years of playing on this console. My husband epecially likes the alalog triggers for playing racing games. It works great!

A word of caution: Take care of your stuff. Clean up when you are done playing and keep your controllers out of reach of your teething toddlers (or train them not to touch it.) The slobber ruins the electronics. Now I have to replace it...

The price is affordable, but always comparison shop. BTW the new platinum color looks really cool!

BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     On: 2004-06-14

THIS CONTROLLER ROCKS! it looks better than the other wavebird [grey] and the range on this thing is awesome. Its a ton better than the regular controllers, even with the extension cable! You can point this in any direction and it still works! You can also use a whole lot of these at once [because of multiple frequencies] without any problems.

Pros;
-Extremely long range [20 feet]
-Looks cool
-Multiple frequencies
-Long battery life [100 hours on only two AA batteries

Cons;

Absolutely no cons!

Awesome!     On: 2004-05-29

Ive played Metroid Prime on this thing...and I rock on it!
The perfect controller     On: 2004-05-15

This Controller ROCKS! The regular controllers cord is way too short. I had to buy a 6 foot controller extension just to keep from accidently pulling out the cord. Well now thats not a problem. Pictures make it look bulky but the extra culk where the batterys go goes completely unnoticed during play. After 10 minutes of playing with this you wont even notice that it doesnt have a rumble reature.
And it has 16 diffrerent radio frequancies, so more than 1 wavebird can be playing in the same room. someone who cheats at games can switch thier radio signal to the same as yours to interfere, but thats the good thing about having so many different frequancies, noone has to know yours.
This is by far the best controller out there, and the batterys really do last at least 60 hours with mine and their still not dead. plus i played through 2 wall(i couldnt see of course)
but my friend said it worked.
woot no cablez to trip on and tangle =)     On: 2004-05-06

except...its kind of expensive... :(
The most comfortable controller you could use.     On: 2004-04-18

My favorite controller has always been the N64 one and I didnt really like the regular controller because the cord kept getting tangled every day so its great to have a wireless one and its great to use for games you can play on the Game Boy Player too.I dont know what else to say about it except its a great controller and really comfortable.
man... i didn't know they made platinum!     On: 2004-04-08

this thing is awesome, and to give it zero stars because of its one flaw while raving about it otherwise is downright idiotic. now i cannot give it 4 stars, which it whole heartedly deserves, because i have to make up for your rating.

anyway, wireless controllers are the best thing for gaming. the only drawback is the lack of rumble. it would be nice to have a low battery indicator, as transmission gets a little spotty when they run down.

otherwise, terrific. we keep the cube behind a solid wooden cabinet and you cannot even tell we have one. RF means it doesnt need to be visible to control it.

A outstanding wireless controller     On: 2004-04-08

The Wavebird is, by far, the best wireless countroller out there. With 16(yes, 16) different channels, you can be sure that there wont be any outside interference. In addition, the Wavebird has a claimed 20 feet range, but mine can go well over 40. Dispite all this, the Wavebird still has an ample 100 hours of battery life. Being a casual gamer, My Wavebird has lasted me from September to mid-March and still going on strong. For those who complain about the lack of rumble, know this: vibrations require a motor which sucks up battery power like nobodys business. So unless you want it to have a 20 minute battery life, quit your yapping.

Recommended at the highest level.

Taking laziness to the extreme!     On: 2004-04-01

Take laziness to the extreme...

Nintendos Wavebird controller is the best thing to have next to your GameCube.
It works way better then advertised, I was still able to play my game well over 30 feet away, even though I wasnt able to actually see what I was doing, it was still working properly.
The RF , radio frequency, allows you to play you favorite GameCube games while rummaging through the fridge (make sure you keep at least one eye on the TV...)!
The only drawback is it doesnt have a rumble feature, which in some cases is a problem.
Other then not having a rumble feature, it is great! I would definitely recommend this controller over any third-party controller out there!
Game On.

GREAT CONTROLLER!!     On: 2004-03-29

This controller is great. I would definitely buy one if you own a gamecube. The only downfall is that it does not vibrate.
Simple Idea...great results.     On: 2004-03-26

I have to say that this controller is money well spent. A lot of people complain about the lack of rumble, and I admit that it was a concern for me as well, but once you are free from the cable the rumble issue seems rather minor. What I feel is the best feature is that the weight difference between the regular controller and this one is minimal, so you do not feel like you have a piece of concrete in your hands while playing. Overall, I would recommend this controller without hesitation.
Ahhh the dump.......goodtimes...goodtimes     On: 2004-03-14

Finally no more tangled wires! Now there is finally a decent easy wireless controller. There was a wireless controller for Nintendo 64, but which was very rare. This though is an awesome device where which now it is easier to take controllers to peoples houses. It also looks really cool. The other thing thats cool is if your playing with 4 people, and change the channel you could control the enemys controller. It would be bad for you, but theres nothing really much they can do about that. Unless you could be able to program it like if you were using the controller for the TV. This is a must if your really really lazy like me.
Wicked Cool!     On: 2004-02-24

Victor Hugo once said, "There is nothing so powerful as an idea whose time has come." Surely, he was speaking of the Nintendo Gamecube Wavebird Controller. In a word: love it. (Maybe two words.)

I cant begin to say how many afternoons I spent in my parachute pants and Members Only jacket playing Metroid or Zelda on NES or SNES, whipping a controller cable back and forth out of my line of sight to the TV. If it wasnt for that, I would probably be a much better gamer today and probably getting paid big bucks to endorse video games, let me tell you.

Maybe Im exaggerating, but Im not exaggerating about how much I enjoy the Wavebird.

I bought it for 35 samolians and thought it relatively expensive. I included it as part of the package when I bought the GC Platinum. (The other three items were a Nintendo-brand memory card, Metroid Prime and Namco Museum--dont ask.)

Setup is a breeze. The Wavebird comes with a module that receives the signal from the controller itself. Plug the module into a controller port on the GC, throw the two double-A batteries into the compartment underneath the controller, flip the "On" switch on the controller, and the next thing you know youre controlling Luigi like magic.

I like to lie in bed and play. When I put the controller down, I dont have to worry about my little brother running into the room and tripping across the cable, sending him sprawling one way and the Gamecube crashing off the TV stand. (Of course, it helps that my "little" brother goes to college halfway across the country.)

Ive played for 10-15 hours so far, and the batteries seem to be holding up. It might help that Im conscientious about turning the unit off when I put it down to get a Ding-Dong and Pepsi. (Hey, Im going old school all the way here now that I have a Nintendo again.)

Pros? Good battery life, convenient, good range, not much heavier than standard controller, easy setup.

Negatives? A few. Expensive, but Ive already mentioned that. (I mean, cmon, $35?!) I keep forgetting to turn it on, which results in me yelling, "Oh, NOOO! My Wavebird is already broken!" until I switch it on. Itll ruin you for the normal controller. (Grin.)

The pros far outweigh the cons. Youll experience the pleasure of playing Gamecube. Bottom line: Works like its supposed to; a very pleasant surprise overall. Buy!

O.k.     On: 2004-02-09

I Think thisis an o.k. item but I think It Shold be in diferent colors.
Perfect controller     On: 2004-02-02

Why all the glowing reviews with 0 stars? Come on people, fill out the whole form. Anyway, this controller is just about perfect. The batteries last a very long time (even the garbage batteries that come with it), and it works a lot farther away than the advertised 20 feet. It is just a bit heavier than the regular controller, probably because of the batteries. My 4-year-old prefers the normal controller (Im not sure if its because of the weight or the rumble feature). I have been very pleased with my Wavebird. I bought it at Wal-Mart for $26 (price-matched a competitor). I should have bought four of them. Even at full retail, its a bargain. Dont waste your money on the regular controllers.

And speaking of the lack of rumble feature, some people are grumbling about it. Think about it. Youd need the rumble motor and a receiver in the controller. These would add additional bulk and weight. The new receiver on the controller would have to be running constantly, even though it would receive a signal a fraction of the time. This would require a lot more battery power (think eight double-As instead of two, or add $50 to the price for a good Lithium-ion battery). Batteries tend to be very heavy, so again, more weight. So youd be adding weight, bulk, and price for a feature that a lot of people dont care about anyway. Maybe they should sell a wireless rumble pack that has its own batteries and can be strapped to the controller?

Nintendo has done it agian!     On: 2004-01-27

The wavebird is the best accessorie for GameCube.I have tested it my self and it works from 20ft away! The draw backs are it needs two double a batteries. And you need to turn it on.
A GameCube must-have!     On: 2004-01-25

Leave your GameCube in the corner and play from across the room... this cool gadget frees you from the cords and lets you play in style!
There is one very minor drawback to these controllers: there is no Rumble to them. So if you cant live without rumble (for some reason) then dont get one of these, otherwise you GOTS to get one!
Outstanding     On: 2004-01-23

The Wavebird Wireless Controller for the Gamecube is a must-have accessory for anyone that can afford it (which, by the way, shouldnt be a problem because of its low price). This controller allows you to be up to 20 feet away from your Gamecube console and still be able to play your favorite games! Anything youve previously heard about getting a bad signal and having the controller stop working in the middle of a game is absolutely not true. Plus, you dont have to aim to controller at the receiver (included in package) like you would a remote controll. The Wavebird uses radio signals to transmit whatever button you press on your controller. Oh, and dont worry about signal interruption...when you use this controller, youll feel as if youre using a regular controller: whatever you press on your Wavebird instantly happens in the game youre playing! The only advantage a regular controller has over this one is that the Wavebird doesnt have a built-in rumble feature (though for those of you who get annoyed by rumble, thats not a problem!) In conclusion...GET THIS CONTROLLER!
This is an excellent product!!     On: 2004-01-18

I was over my friends and we were playing one of his new games and we were using his wireless controllers. They were awsome! but the one thing is, these people are so stupid, their like "it even goes through doors!", its a radio wave!! it can go through many things!
Excellent product     On: 2004-01-15

I bought this product based the reviews of Amazon customers. This product works great from anywhere we play within the TV room. It is truly a great purchase that allows you freedom to move around and play cordless. I see no advantage to playing with a corded controller and I am going to buy another wavebird. I highly recommend this product.
Best Wireless Controller!
by: Anonymous    On: 2004-01-14

If you own a Cube, you must get this. In the past, wireless controllers ate up batteries quickly and required the player to aim the thing at the receiver to work. Step up to the future! This Wavebird is amazing beyond words. Ive had the same batteries in it for a couple months of use (2 "AA" cells), and they still work flawlessly! Also, the Cube is in the bedroom so I powered it up, turned the sound up, and took the Wavebird downstairs into the kitchen. As I could hear, it worked perfectly (the wireless signal passed through the walls with no problem)! There is a small green LED light on the tiny receiver that lights when any button on the controller is pushed, and the controller itself has an orange light confirming power is on (a good reminder to shut it off when done playing). For some reason this unit seems better than the included GC controller; it is lighter and more comfortable to use. Only thing missing is rumble feature but that isnt even missed at all compared to the freedom this offers. There are 16 frequencies selectable via a rotating wheel (one on the controller and one on the receiver) that lock in place and are numbered (look closely), so 4 of them can be used at once on one system without interference. Thank you Nintendo! Excellent product. Dont own a Cube without it!
wavebird     On: 2004-01-11

it si one of the best wirless controler on the market that is not ir it does have the ability to go through walls and floors i dont know why you would want to do that anyways but you do not have to aim it at the gamecube
BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO GAMES SINCE MARIO!     On: 2004-01-05

This controller ROX! I wish everything could go wireless like this. It works so well. NO PROBS at all with connectivity. The only thing this is missing is the RUMBLE feature ... but I never really cared about that anyway! The real problem is how long it took me to buy this thing. Ive had my gamecube for more than a year and always thought the wavebird was too bulky looking but it actually feels better than the normal controller. Its great not being limited to 3 feet in front of the TV. And if you pause a game - No more cheating when you leave the room to do something because the controller can come with you! BRAVO NINTENDO! when the N5 hits package wireless controls with it.
GREAT controller!     On: 2004-01-04

This controller is awesome. There is absolutely no lag, button and stick response is just like regular cord controller. This controller dont have rumble but I can always use the original Nintendo Gamecube controller if I want to experience rumble. The weigh and hand feel is just like the regular Gamecube controller without the cord!
The manual says the battery life is about 100 hours for fresh high quality alkaline batteries, very good! There is an orange LED power indicator on controller and when battery life gets low the LED dims! There is a green LED on the receiver, it lights up when the controller is in action, pretty neat! The wavebird is very well designed!

The controller to receiver wireless connection is very solid! You can point the controller in any direction, under blanket, behind a door, outside from the window, or play behind your back, the controller never loses its communication with the receiver.

Overall this controller is great. If you want an extra/more controllers, get the wavebird instead of the regular Nintendo Gamecube controller.

Cordless, Great Color, but where's the Rumble!?     On: 2004-01-03

The WaveBird for the Nintendo GameCube is overall a wonderful game controller. You can enjoy great gameplay without the frustration of tangling chords! It reaches up to 20 feet so you can sit significantly far away from the console and still be able to execute moves and functions. You may even purchase up to 4 of these and plug them in all different ports at one time for multiplayer fun without the worry of cross-reception or interference.

Your purchase will include the controller itself, a receptor, and two AA batteries. These batteries will be placed inside the controller for communication with the receptor. The battery life, however, is something Im unsure of. The WaveBird comes with a convenient on/off switch that seems to save battery life quite well. In fact, after SEVERAL hours of gaming (and I mean SEVERAL), I am still using the same batteries that came with the controller.

So far, the only two colors that seem to be available for the WaveBird are grey and platinum. I must say that platinum is rather attractive-looking and, even better, its at no extra cost over the grey.

The only problem Ive had with the WaveBird (and quite frankly, the reason why I could not give it a perfect score) is the fact that it is NOT equipped with the rumble feature. This will take away from "that feel that you are in the game". What possessed Nintendo to create a wireless controller without the great feature of the rumble is beyond me.

This misconception has definitely devalued the WaveBird in some ways, however, its attractiveness and convenience of cordless gameplay surely seem to make up for it. It deserves four stars.

Very Very cool

Ive had mine for almost a year now, and I love it. It has good batterie life and I havent ever had any trouble with it not working right. My only complaint is that it doesnt have rumble.

Ultimate Controller     On: 2003-12-30

The WaveBird controller from Nintendo is absolutely pure genius. I cannot begin to tell you how great this is. My GC Controller doesnt reach my couch, so I got this controller and I love it!
Platinum as an Understatement     On: 2003-12-30

Its a rare occasion to get this excited about a controller. Not only does the WaveBird eliminate the tangle of wires that usually takes place during my countless "gaming sessions," but it also has the endurance to last for what seems to be forever until another battery change is needed.

Who would benefit from this product: Consistent gamers of all ages seeking to avoid the tangle of wires, yearning for a seat farther away from the tv, or quite simply needing another controller.

Who wouldnt benefit from this product: Individuals that are satisfied with their gaming setup or individuals that quite simply just dont game enough. Ask yourself: Is comfort worth $30 of my money?

Excellent controller...     On: 2003-12-25

I bought the Wavebrid wireless controller because the Gamecube controller wires dont reach the couch in my livingroom. I was expecting a heavy and uncomfortable design. What I got was exactly the opposite. The Wavebird is in fact lighter than the original GC controllers. Despite the fact that the middle space is filled up with the receptor or something, it still features the same ergonomic comfort, and gameplay is not disturbed at all. The absense of the wire provides a somewhat more free game experience, and it eliminates the frustrationg of wire knots and tangles, and having the wire pop out in the middle of a game. The channel changer is easily moved, which can sometimes mess you up, although it is not that much of a problem for me. Although it currently only comes in two colors, Im sure that, like the other controllers, they will come out with ones with different coloring. It does lack a rumble pack, but this is a small price to pay for the convenience it provides. There is a big price to pay, however: $$$. The Wavebird is double the price of the normal GC controller. Because of this, I recommend that you only purchase one, at least until new colors are released, or unless they go on sale and you just cant resist the thought of having two. The Wavebird is really a great controller, and despite the hefty price and lack of a rumble pack and color variety, it is well worth it.
Convenient     On: 2003-12-23

The Wavebirds wireless connection to your Gamecube lets you play from anywhere you can see the TV screen, without worrying about the controller cable getting tangled up in peoples feet, or wrapped around a table leg, or pinched under a chair.

PRO:
Wireless
AA batteries
Connects just like a standard controller

CON:
No warning light for when batteries are low/dying.
The channel select button is easy to accidentally switch, which sucks while youre playing a hot action game.
Only one color, one style. Blech!

GREAAAAT PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!(this is not the first time ive seen anything technical, in fact, im not bad gamer at all....heh)

This is probably one of the most useful prouduct I have EVER used in my life. I just lie there on my sofa, covered in pillows and blankets, and play my games. (Super mario sunshine, really great game!) The batteries dont even go as fast! My corney saying; (that I constantly mumble) no wire, no worry! I think its really safe to say that this is the most useful that I have ever used (In terms of gaming, that is) I highly recommend this devise!!
I am only a lazy college girl, but out of my 20 years on this earth, I have become thankful to live in the 21 century because of this engenius prouduct!

sweet     On: 2003-12-04

i always wanted a platinum wavebird for my platinum GC and now its been released and i got my hands on 1 as soon as it came out. not only does it look sweet, its not as annoying as the reguar gc controller with the annoying wires which already makes it worth the 34.99, but it also comes with its own batteries (unlike some other grey wavebirds which i held out from getting 1) and i love showing it off to my friends. BUY IT!
This Controller Is awesome     On: 2003-11-28

The battery doesnt die as much as the unofficial ps2 and x-box ones. and its auctually made by gamecube!

UPDATE
I just bought this controller and LOVE IT!It may be bigger but it feels better at the bottom of your hands because there is that extra part of the controller and I feel like a whole new gamer!
